  1. Anyone up for next week?
  2. I used to watch his TV shows in the late 50's/early 60s. He used to show old horror films and do some hilarious routines during breaks from the movie. Those were the days when television on local stations was live and improvised to a great degree. He would have one way conversations with his wife, Isobel (in a coffin) and his son, Gasport, and would cut into the movies at times to make comments to characters. Thanks for all of the memories and the laughs, Mr. Zacherle.
  3. For me, it won't be big until someone gets to three.
  4. I see a lot of them around here. To me, they're depressing to look at. My wife says that she's read that gray cars are least likely to be visible on the road and thus more likely to be involved in an accident. I don't drive a gray car, for whatever that's worth.
  5. Yancey Derringer Samuel Colt Billy Dee Williams
  6. I can't narrow things down to 5 all time records, but here are 5 tracks of early jazz that were important in the first years of my listening to the music: Louis Armstrong's Hot Five: "Skid-Dat-De-Dat"; Sidney Bechet: "Summertime"; Duke Ellington: "Ko-Ko"; Pres on Billie's "I Must Have That Man"; Jelly Roll: "Mamie's Blues" I listened to all of these on albums, not on 78s.
  7. Best wishes on Your Birthday, Guy!
  8. This possibly deserves a thread of its own.
  9. I don't have a horse in the race and it's 68 years vs. 108 years - a long time either way. I have respect for both managers, so that's not a factor. Whoever wins, I hope I see some good baseball.
  10. I don't know if this is gospel, but Earl Palmer's bio, Backbeat, lists "The Night Has a Thousand Eyes" as a record that he played on.
  11. Cellar Dwellers Dungeons and Dragons Cecil Taylor
  12. The man made good pop records. Nothing to be ashamed of there. RIP, Mr. Velline.
  13. A good friend sent me a message about dj Herb Kent's passing and included a link to a 45 on which he does a vocal. My friend also included two links to videos of bluesman Freddie Roulette playing steel guitar. (He 's the main instrumentalist on the 45.) I thought some here might enjoy the videos - they're relatively short. Modern blues steel guitar is a rarity and Freddie Roulette is a good one.
  14. A friend sent me the same link to Herb Kent's passing and later included a link to a 45 that Herb Kent did a spoken vocal on. (I actually have the 45 and had forgotten about the vocal side.
  15. That might work, but it could give an advantage to a team that plays in a weaker division that year. It might work just as well to alternate AL/NL each year. I can't remember if that's how it used to go.
  16. Big Joe Williams, Memphis Slim, Little Brother Montgomery: Unissued Chicago Blues of the 50's from Cobra & JOB (Flyright)
  17. I think you've answered your own question.
  18. It's interesting to see what the first purchases of people of different ages and from different countries were.
  19. Don Joseph: One of a Kind (Uptown)
  20. Still have my copy bought in 1969.
