  1. I haven't heard all of the Steeplechase recordings, but what I have heard I haven't kept. I'll leave it at that. Perhaps I heard the wrong albums. There is other post 1953 Bud that I'd rather listen to. From the European years: some of the material on Shaw Nuff (Xanadu/EPM) - "Idaho" with Johnny Griffin is wonderful. A Portrait of Thelonious (Columbia/Sony) Bouncing with Bud (Storyville/Delmark) In Paris (Reprise) - though I haven't listened to that last one in a while.
  2. Charlie Parker: Bird Encores Vol. 2 (Savoy Jazz)
  3. Princess Margaret Queen Elizabeth Helen Mirren
  4. I met him (fleetingly) at a soul concert about 15 years ago. He seemed like a genuinely nice person. Thanks for the music you gave us, Mr. King. (Actually, King was a stage name. Nelson was his family's last name. I met a relative of his when I was giving blood a few years ago, and he told me that Ben E. King was at a recent family reunion.)
  5. To me, the article read like a publicity piece. I guess for Mr. Coleman and his fans, that's a good thing.
  6. Glad that Blue Mitchell made some $ with the gigs and recordings. As for Mayall. I'll pass.
  7. Sonny Clark Trio (BN/King)
  8. It's O.K. Not on the same level as Hill Country Suite though. IMHO, of course. I had Arrival and have Hill Country. If I want to hear Bobby Jones, I'll listen to him with Mingus.
  9. The non-native posters here have my complete respect and admiration. Thanks for what you add to these forums.

  14. Happy 10,000th post, Jeff - and it's a great one.
  15. Some good stories. Thanks.
  16. Well said. Don't think I can add anything to that.
  17. I was familiar with the story Sonny told (as I'm sure most here are), but it was probably new to the vast majority of Times readers. I did like his ending: "I could have just stayed up there forever. But Lucille was supporting us, and I had to go back to work. You can't be in heaven and on earth at the same time."
  18. my thoughts exactly when I saw this for sale Thirded - Great music - Great notes.

  20. You won't find a lot of this music anywhere else. And an excellent price. Hope someone here picks up on it.
  21. Hat Hut issued a postcard with a swirl of smoke around him. Unfortunately, that smoke eventually killed him.
