  1. As much a Ben Webster album as a Harry Edison album - and that's a good thing. (No offense meant toward Mr. Edison.)
  2. It would be interesting to hear a version with the singing roles reversed.
  3. I wonder why Hank Jones was on this date?
  4. Nor did I. Haven't followed Down Beat polls in many years.
  5. Yeah - it could have fit on one disc, but I'm just happy that it exists in any form.
  6. I always get a laugh at the end of "The Nexus" when, a few seconds after the music ends, a voice (Walt Dickerson's?) says. "That's it."
  7. I actually prefer Tommy's record to Stanley's.
  8. I wish that I could read (and speak) another language. Ken Singleton, who was a very good ballplayer and who now announces for the Yankees, had a good line during a game last season: What do you call a person who only speaks one language? An American.
  9. Thanks for the post. Looks/sounds interesting.
  10. Listening to this brought back memories of hearing Andrew White in the mid-60s. By then, he was stretching out much more and playing some wildly beautiful music.
  11. Good to see you here again. Hope you stick around.
  12. I remember reading something that Nick Tosches wrote, to the effect that calling Roy Acuff the king of country music is equivalent to calling Sonny Tufts the king of Hollywood. I'm not a Nick Tosches fan, but he nailed that one.
  13. Saw that one in a theatre back when.
