  1. Michael Chabon: Telegraph Avenue Just another Chabon entertainment. I'm through reading his stuff. I can think of a few people here who might enjoy this book much more than I did.
  2. It's coupled with "The Golden Striker" on a Collectables CD Jazz Abstractions was released on an Atlantic (Japan) CD in 1992.
  3. Sorry to hear of Karen's loss. It's easy to see the caring bond in the photographs.
  4. Happy Belated Birthday Wishes!
  5. Thanks to all for their good wishes. You guys are great. I said to someone today that I'm getting too old to celebrate my birthday. She said, "Keep celebrating them. Just don't count them." Good advice.
  6. I saw that a few regular posters had birthdays yesterday when the Formums were screwed up. Remembered Neal Pomea, but not others. If you had a birthday yesterday, let us know here so we can honor your birthday. It only comes once a year and it shouldn't be ignored.
  7. Happy Birthday to your dad, Jeff. I hope I make it to 87. There are days when I feel as if I already have.
  8. Saw a few birthdays on the Forums yesterday, and they got skipped over because of the technical problems. I remember that one of the names was Neal's. So Happy Birthday, Neal! It's a day late, but the good feelings are still here today.
  9. Always look forward to my yearly Jean-Jacques Sempé from brownie.
  10. Hope you enjoy it for many years.
  11. Feels great to have the forum back. I guess everyone feels that way.
  12. What does this mean? As I understand it, it refers to some (all?) of the BN heavy vinyl reissues done in the 1990's that had the name "Wally" etched in the area of the end grooves. I could be completely wrong about this. I like to listen more than check out what pressings are what.
  13. Baby Face Willette: Stop and Listen (BN "Wally')
  14. I hope that Mariano has something left. If not, there's always hope that David Robertson can return to his 2010 form. I watched Soriano all year and he wasn't as good as his saves/blown saves record might indicate. He got himself in trouble in quite a few games - though he did get himself out of trouble most times. He was no Mariano. That said, I'd offer him a one year deal - two at the max. If he can get a better deal elsewhere, good for him.
  15. Another sad day. Thanks for the music, Mr. Curson. You gave more than your share.
  16. Thanks for sharing that memory of Newark, MG.
  17. Lester Bowie Dolly Dagger Jack "Hacksaw" Reynolds
  18. Good to see that the musicians and the Nessa label are getting some press.
  19. Dottie West Joe South Johnny Reb
  20. Thanks for posting the link. Though Across Five Decades skipped a few. Haven't yet heard Numbers. Roscoe Mitchell isn't as prolific as Braxton, but sometimes it seems like it's hard to keep up.
  21. Used to be that folks rooted for teams - not networks.
  22. God Is in the House has solo Tatum recorded after hours plus some after hours sides where he's accompanied by only a bass player. The CD also includes an effective vocal by Tatum on a slow blues. As a bonus to go with all of that, there are two cuts with Frank Newton and bassist Ebenezer Paul. Fine music.
  23. "Frenchy" Bordagaray David Frye Barbeque Bob
  24. Paul Bley: Alone, Again (IAI)
