  1. Been reading Jim's moanings about the Rangers. They have the third best record in the AL, and are only 1/2 game behind the Rays, who have the best record in the AL. I always thought that Philly & Boston fans were the toughest. Apparently, they have something to learn from the Lone Star state.

  8. Just listened to the lp. The Montgomery Brothers track isn't much - to my ears the least of the music on the record. Historical importance far outweighs the musical value.
  9. And all along I thought it was Miles, Trane, Red, Paul, and Philly.

  13. They were good. They just could have been better.
  14. Don't recall seeing this thread before - amazing what's in the Organissimo back pages. Have the record. Haven't played it in so long that I'd forgotten what's on it. One to listen to soon.
  15. The Fab Five were the classic example of style over substance. There was some substance there, but not nearly enough to overcome their egos.

Masters from Different Worlds (Mapleshade) with Clifford Jordan is very good, interesting, and well worth checking out.

  20. Cadence carries NoBusiness, so perhaps it will be easier for U.S. buyers to get this from them.

  22. I tried to come up with an answer posting on a couple of boards, but never found anything definite - the great Chicago blues drummer, Earl Phillips, who recorded with Wolf, was the drummer on all of the classic Jimmy Reed sides, and played on a number of Vee-Jay blues sides, may have recorded with Roy Eldridge in 1946 for Decca. Earl Phillips is listed as the drummer on the "Hi Ho Trailus Boot Whip" session. Earl Phillips is a somewhat common name, but there can't be too many drummers named Earl Phillips. If the Eldridge Phillips and the blues Phillips are the same man, he's a candidate for this thread.
