  1. Thank you, Mr. Gelbart. You'll be remembered and missed.
  2. Looks like reissues are going down the tubes fast. Maybe it's time for people to buy some newly recorded music
  3. Heard Albert Ayler in concert shortly before Love Cry was released, and he was playing some of those tunes as part of a medley flowing into one another, not as separate tunes like they appear on the record. I bought Healing Force and Last Album when they were issued. Listened to them a couple of times and got rid of them. Have no desire to revisit them.
  4. Big Youth: "Honesty" from Screaming Target Maybe not the "best" track - I've listened to a lot of good music this week - but one that caught my attention like it hadn't before.
  5. I'm here because my computer was down for a couple of days and I missed my Organissimo fix.
  6. John Tchicai/Archie Shepp/J.C. Moses/Don Moore: Rufus (Fontana stereo) - Purchased at Stereo Jack's about 20 years ago.
  7. I have a copy of the Japanese vinyl. Strangely enough, I bought that several years before I saw a copy of the original French issue - skipped buying the one from France because I already had the other. The liner notes, dated September 10, 1976, are credited to Acklyn R. Lynch - Washington, D.C., speak briefly about Mao's life and death and the revolts in South Africa, and are fairly heavy into the political rhetoric of the time. No quotes from the musicians. No recording date given on my copy. I have seen three discographies that list the recording date as summer, 1976. Though perhaps all three took their date from the same source.
  8. Guess I'm in a minority, but Glen Campbell doing the teenage idol/teenage angst thing in 1965/66 doesn't seem real to me. He was 30 years old then.
  9. 3- 2 Yanks. 2 HRs by Swisher - the second a walk-off.
  10. Miss Piggy Hargus "Pig" Robbins Wonder Warthog
  11. Brown Eyed Girl Judy Blue Eyes Green Eyed Monster
  12. I fell in love with Denis (then Dennis) Charles' music when I heard Looking Ahead! over 40 years ago. That hasn't changed in all the years that have come since then. Some of my favorite recordings (outside of the ones done with Cecil) are: Bangception - w. Billy Bang w. Claude Lawrence and Wilber Morris: Lost Art/Hidden Treasures and Presenting Claude Lawrence Steve Lacy: Capers w. Ronnie Boykins & Denis Charles The Jazz Doctors (Frank Lowe, Billy Bang, Rafael Garrett, & Denis Charles): Intensive Care
  13. Wonderful photo! Thanks! Too bad that photo didn't exist when Snurdy McGurdy and Her Dancin' Shoes was reissued.
  14. Lorrie Moore Cab Calloway Johnny Hodges
  15. Some great 60's Ellington on RCA. Also some good Johnny Hodges. I guess it wasn't RCA Victor, but take it back to Victor, Bluebird, whatever other early names were used & there's Jelly Roll, Bechet, the Ellington 40's band, late 40's Basie, Fats Waller, etc. - a world of early jazz.
  16. Nick Danger Alex Trebek Tom Cruise
  17. Wonderful photo! Thanks!
  18. Mr. Potato Head Cabbage Patch Kid Mr. Bean
  19. Sammy Davis (harp player) Earl Hooker Robert Nighthawk
  20. I care nothing about Dave Dexter, but the reviewer does himself no favor by treating Dave Marsh as an authority (on anything). Shill, thy name is Dave Marsh.
  21. Colonel Mustard Posh Spice Pepper Martin
  22. Harvey Pekar Paul Giamatti Pete Rose
  23. Just finished watching Woody Allen's The Purple Rose of Cairo on TCM.
  24. Seconded. Hope you'll add to the discussions. The more opinions, the better - and yours seem to be thoughtful.
  25. Don't have a big desire to relive my youth, so I'm passing. I'll use the $ for other music. But that's just me. I hope everyone who's into these releases has a great time listening to them.
