Allen - a question: What do you mean by "authentic"?

Probably - but that's the thing with Shaq. He's fine when his team is winning, but when things go south, he wants out. See Orlando, the Lakers, the Heat. The other thing with Shaq is that he's never been known for his work ethic. When was the last time he played a full season? To me, this was another chance for him to play half a season.

Seems to me that was just a cover story anyway. Shaq was in disfavor with Riley and you know how Riley is; if you cross him, you are out. It may well have been a cover story, but dogging it like he did doesn't say much for Shaq.

I've always listened to many different genres of music. Lately I find myself taking the opposite track from Allen's. These days I'm listening to more jazz than ever before. Part of the reason for that is that I feel that I'm able to hear things more clearly than ever before. Maybe it's because I'm older and more patient than I was in the past. Whatever the reason, I find myself listening to Jelly Roll Morton, for example, and hearing more of what's going on than I ever had. And to use another example, I've listened to more Roscoe Mitchell over the past year, and heard more of what he's doing than I ever had before. I still listen to other kinds of music, but I'm finding that there's a wealth of jazz that I've listened to but never completely heard. And that's an exciting thing for me.

Shaq was hurting too much to play for the Heat. He gets traded to Phoenix, and miraculously he's healthy. I'm sure that's just a coincidence.

Water is reissuing Ornette's The Art of the Improvisors next month - with, oddly enough, two "bonus" tracks from To Whom Who Keeps a Record, which they've already reissued. So I guess they're still around - more or less.

Whatever became of Brooks Kerr? Googled, but couldn't find anything recent.

For myself, I can't imagine listening to all of those trio recordings. I'd be happy with a well chosen Select - but that's just me. The recordings he did for Mercury that were released on Emarcy in the 1990's seem to have gone out of print. The only one I have in my collection is Solo Time!, and that's a wonderful album. If the rest of his Mercury recordings are even close to that one, that material would make a very good Mosaic box. Probably not out of print for a long enough time to be feasible.

Worlds is definitely worth supporting.

Interesting, eclectic label - I have a few of their issues, plus originals of a bunch of others they've reissued. Thanks for posting the query. Looking through their catalog, I see that there are a few things I'm interested in - Sandy Bull, Paul Kelly, Holy Modal Rounders.
