I wonder why it is hard to imagine the band ever playing together again, if it went well. Especially if there could be some money in it. I think you could infer that it DIDN'T go well. "Well enough" is not exactly a rave review. I have a friend who was there and said as much. "Well enough" hasn't stopped a lot of other 60's bands from coming out of retirement.

Hope it's a great one!

And a big plus - if you order the new Eagles CD online, you don't even have to set foot inside a Wal Mart store.

Tom Brady and Giselle Bundchen at the Village Vanguard

I'm guessing you didn't enjoy the flaming Russian penis thread either. I was just in a bad mood and got pissed that our society's cult of pseudo-celebrities infested this world. I see enough of it in other places. What are you, green or something? All culture in America eventually becomes tawdry. -
Sorry. I'm in a too serious mood these days for various reasons. I'll have to try and lighten up.

I'm cynical, but not nearly cynical enough to agree with that statement. The "music business" includes a lot of people, including musicians, record company owners, and producers - some of whom post or have posted on the Board - and I don't think that it's always been simply about the money for all of them. I'm sure that all of them want to make a living, but if that's all they want, there are easier ways to do it.

why do we collect all this music?
paul secor replied to alocispepraluger102's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I know that I collect because I love listening to music, but that's only part of the answer. It's the other part that bothers me. -
Don't give a damn about Plant or Krauss, but thanks for the news about the Merle. I'm looking forward to hearing that - or just about any Merle. I give thanks that he's still around and still doing it right.

Who the F are these people, and why are their images littering up this Forum? -
Clem is probably laughing his ass off reading all of the positive/negative/contradictory/speculative comments we've posted about him.

Miles Davis - Lift to the Scaffold remaster
paul secor replied to monkboughtlunch's topic in Re-issues
I have the old Fontana CD for all of the music and a Speakers Corner LP for better sonics. I'm sticking with what I have. -
Available from CD Universe, but backordered: http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?...89911&BAB=E

Miles Davis: "Four" and More I remember buying this LP when it was first issued, listening to it and thinking that Miles was the greatest trumpeter ever. I didn't have the listening experience to make that kind of judgement back then (nor do I now - wouldn't be that presumptuous), but listening today I can understand why I felt the way I did.

Have to say that I go the other way. When I see that Clem has posted something, I want to check out what he has to say. It may be something that I agree with, disagree with, or have no interest in, but I find his posts are usually worth reading and usually give me something to think about.

You may want to check out Duke Ellington's Jazz Violin Session - same violinists minus Ponty, and a very fine record.

It's easy to second guess. I tend to figure that most baseball managers have been around the game for a long while and know more about it than I do - as much as I like to second guess. The one manager (ex-manager) who would be an exeption to that rule is Don Zimmer. edit: And he has an excuse - he was hit in the head by pitched balls at least a couple of times.

You may want more, but needing more is a whole other deal - as most of us have learned.

Well, I finally got the opportunity today to sit down with the gentleman who lives on my mail route. I have to tell you it was a blast discussing jazz music with him. He must be in his early 80's, has abit difficulty getting around, but really knows his jazz and has a great collection. I was there just over 2 hours. Time just flew! I let him borrow my Horace Parlan and Carmell Jones Mosaics. He's a big fan of Mosaic Records and receives the catalogue regularly so I figured these recording might be to his liking. I noticed he has a Bunny Berigan Mosiac and a few others lying around. In exchange he let me borrow some cds. Very nice guy and I hope we have many opportunities in the future to converse. Overall, it was a great experience guys. Great story, Tom! Good that you made the effort to make a connection with him and that something very positive came out of it. Perhaps each of you will have a new friend because of what you did, and that's a great thing.

And why exactly would Fresh Sound owe any royalties for your father's performance over and above those owed based on his authorship ? Imperial Records themselves no doubt only paid mechanicals , not artist royalties , in this case . Sounds like he's saying that Fresh Sound didn't pay any composer's royalties either. Thieves will be thieves - don't cut them any slack.

Garage band funk?

That's interesting, Paul. I see most of the album is Lynn Hope. Is that material he recorded for King? (I think I have all or most of his Aladdin stuff.) MG The Lynn Hope material is all King stuff - specifically all from King LP 717 - Majaraja of the Tenor Sax + three unnisued sides. Only five cuts by Clifford Scott are included (one unissued), but they're all good ones. Looking at a discography, Clifford Scott recorded three times as much material as was issued on this CD, including a session with Andrew Hill and Malachi Favors - might be interesting to hear that one. Anyway, this CD was issued by Charly, so you might have a shot finding one in a used store in the UK for a cheaper price than the Amazon bandits want.
