  1. I may be changing my opinion from I don't care to yes. It might be a good thing to be able to browse through selected topics on a Classical Forum rather than browsing though the entire Misc. Music Forum.
  2. Listening to some clips while watching your chicken dance.
  3. All the best to you on YOUR day!

    Joe Gordon

    Yes sir.
  5. Louis Jordan: Let the Good Times Roll (Bear Family) - 1947 sides
  6. Reading several essays by my favorite film critic, Andrew Sarris, in You Ain't Heard Nothin' Yet. From "Norma Shearer (1902-1983): "People sometimes ask me why we don't have people like the Marx Brothers anymore, and I reply that we do have people like the Marx Brothers, perhaps too many, but we don't have people like Margaret Dumont anymore. We don't have dowagers or stuffed shirts. Everyone, rich or poor, young or old, is a zany character with a stand-up routine. There is no one for zaniness to play off against."
  7. OK. Seen much more Van Horn than I've heard Littman. Probably not a good thing. Do I want to see Peter Littman?
  8. Whatever happens is ok with me. I usually go to Read New Posts and check out the Classical Listening thread or other classical threads, and rarely search through the Forums.
  9. Some work places are not like that, though. My law firm isn't. It would be quite literally unbearable to have this group of people talking about my musical taste all the time. Trust me--no one would want to be the constant topic of ignorant conversation by a group of attorneys, paralegals and legal secretaries. There is something uniquely corrosive about legal people, something that sucks the soul out of you if you get too close. And I like most of these people! My wife has commented on the same thing, that law firm parties are like visiting a ring of hell. They can't help it. Glad I don't hang with lawyers.
  10. Interesting read. I don't agree with everything, but I don't have to. It made me want to play some Ornette, and that's surely a good thing. "an abstract expressionist Louis Jordan" - some might disagree, but I like it. Think I'll play me some L. J., too On the other hand - "the Ornette-inspired virtuosity of Herbie Hancock" - ??? - someone please explain. On still another hand - haven't read any Thomas Pynchon since The Crying of Lot 49 when I was in college - all too many years ago. Found it boring and never went back to Pynchon again. Perhaps I've been missing something - I'm sure Clem will let me know - and perhaps I'll find myself at the library.
  11. Miles: Seven Steps to Heaven
  12. If you're not playing the music too loudly, and your supervisor doesn't have a problem with you listening to music, who cares what anyone else thinks? There are a lot more important things in life than worrying about other people's opinions of your musical tastes.
  13. Agreed. I'd rather watch Pistons vs. Spurs for 3 years in a row before I could sit through a Lakers vs. Heat series. Obviously this is a purely counterfactual argument, but Horry would have been suspended one game max had it not been for Amare and Boris. Guy I agree with Guy. I think that if it hadn't been for the other two suspensions Horry might even have gotten away with a fine. Horry's two games were just a make up by the league.
  14. But he can change the way he is. Or at least he should be able to.
  15. Bird - tho not "authorised" recordings, and mostly (all?) released after his death Steve Lacy Ornette's trio with Moffett and Izenzon Albert Ayler Art Ensemble of Chicago Louis Armstrong
  16. Wow. Well, at least some of the younger members will be around when the series concludes.
  17. Haven't heard Ella's last album, but I agree with you on Sirius. "So sad, depressing, but meaningful" says it all. Another case in point - Billie: Lady in Satin. It took a long time for me to be able to hear it, but I'm glad that I kept listening.
  18. I hear (and feel) what you're saying, but stars shouldn't (and didn't, in this case) get a free pass on breaking a league rule.
  19. Best wishes to Bo. Hope he's up and about very soon.
  20. Happy birthday, Larry! Hope there are many more.
  21. Charles Tyler: Saga of the Outlaws
  22. Thanks for sharing that with us, Allen. It must have been painful to write, but I hope you came out of writing it with more understanding and peace of mind than you had before you wrote it.
  23. I remember hearing Flo Kennedy regularly on WBAI in NYC in the late 60's/early 70's. At one point she said that the station had too many music programs and needed more political programming. I felt just the opposite was true.
