  1. I've never seen this Progressive lp and that's a shame, I'd like to hear those alternates. Bertrand, if as I suspect this is the same Progressive lp label, it is now part of George H. Bucks fabulous holdings and you can see artists etc. here: http://www.jazzology.com/progressive_records.php
  2. Well Worded. Happy Birthday!
  3. I bet it was the SUPER one . . . .
  4. What does "Portrait of Jennie" have to do with Donald Byrd? I am guessing because he recorded it on the Half Note live session. Okay. . .Yes, thanks. B u t I tremendously doubt that had anything to do with Wes covering this film theme song.
  5. What does "Portrait of Jennie" have to do with Donald Byrd?
  6. Thanks Cary! I'm doing my best. Have to!
  7. Now that I'm home for almost a week and with another week to go, I've access to the studio albums. . . been listening to the expanded versions of the first three for the first time in a long time. Hey. . . that's a pretty good band!
  8. Got the Vol. 7 of Pure Jerry last night. Pretty good show. Also comes witha "JGB" pick!
  9. I never received (to my knowledge) a second message either: I got a first and a third, and a package. Now on order number two, done just a few days ago, nothing yet past the original email.
  10. It's really refreshing to hear the skillful fusing that Monday does and has done. I can envision this a new pathway for the music we love to grow and move past the past. Those songs. . . they have a life of their own. And Sasha's arrangements bring real meat to the songs' bones. There's tons of cred within and new currency to bank on. Let's hope there's more like this round the bend.
  11. I have to say with the recent events in my life I just have to be positive or I'll crumble. And Monday's music slid right in there when I needed it most and has become part of the strengthening. Her "philosophy road" is one that is a postivie travel route. . . I'm on the road. Like Jim I've been enjoying exploring different music the last months and Monday's is possibly the cream of the crop. My hat is off to her for blending a fine mix of sound and refining the mix over the years.
  12. 'Savailable as a Verve Vault download on iTunes.
  13. You know, Artist Share is a phenomenal resource, and a good portion of her best work is available on there, and will be on there in the future (as she only gets better). And Monday may be as busy as she wants to be and as much a cog in the industry wheels as she wants to be. But it would sure be nice if her back catalog were available in the US so that many another could afford to hear her music, and reap the benefits. That's what I want for Christmas. Now how does one invent and build Santa Claus?
  14. Yes, the circle will remain unbroken. It's fitting. I wish Monday all the success in the world. What a sweet and strong person, you can sense it in her work and in her written presence all over the web (and even in a few private mailboxes). Call it Anything! Just give it a listen and let it teach you some things. (Maybe it will "give you something to believe in." Stranger things have happened to jazzers!)
  15. I'm with ya. I'm listening to "4 Seasons" right now. If anyone who loves jazz can't get behind the swing and the textures and the pure beauty of these pieces. . . well. . . I guess I can "understand" it but I CAN'T UNDERSTAND IT!
  16. Mine was practically IN the door. It was crammed into the doorwell and the scree door was up against it.
  17. Yeah Jim, as I keep listening to Monday it's the SONGS, both the music and the lyrics, that are at the CORE and the HEART of her work and that inform all the trappings and give them . . . depth? impact? memorability? As you hear certain songs in demo, then full blown arranged, then remixed, then stripped down to just voice and guitar, the SONG is there as the glue of her art. I love her songs.
  18. Thanks. I'm not crazy then. . . at least not over this. I should have brought the liner notes in to be sure that is what it said. I'm having "one of those weeks" (back at work for a few weeks, which is GREAT, maybe I'm just not used to being happy!)
  19. I should have brought this in to work (but it's on my iPod now so no need for music's sake) but I got this in last night, put it on the system this morning over coffee, and really enjoyed the sound. But. . . .I was reading the notes and if I'm not mistaken it mentions "Judgment" as having Davis and Haynes as a rhythm section. It talks of three lps with that section, "Black Fire," "Smokestack" and "Judgment." Umm. . . isn't Elvin Jones the powerful and sensitive trapsmeister on "Judgment"?
  20. Is that an assertion or do you know for a fact that CCR has been outselling material on, for example, Stax? MG I would be very surprised if the Stax titles came close to the CCR in total sales.
  21. The biggest impression for me so far of those that I had not heard before is the Barbara Lea (with Johnny Windhurst Quintets). I had heard later Lea and not been too impressed (but didn't hear much or too closely). This one I got mainly for Windhurst and Carey, and I'm glad I did. Yes, Lea sounds so much like Wiley some of the time here that it's scary (but I'm a Lee Wiley FAN). But these are nice little quintets and Johnny and Dick blow so nicely and it's captured in great RVG living-room sound. I'll crack open the other Lea title I picked up soon.
  22. Are you looking forward to your next one? PARTAY!
  23. Glad it was a great one and many more happy ones!
