Re-read the two K. W. Jeter "Blade Runner" books: The Edge of Human, and Replicant's Night. I'm of a divided mind about these. Some great parts. . . some parts that I just don't think fit. Writing is definitely not PhilDickian to me, but what do I know! Now breezing through the Ashley Kahn book on A Love Supreme. I like it more than its sister book about Kind of Blue. . . .

Listening to the second disc of the "A Love Supreme" "Deluxe Edition" two cd set. That concert is amazing! And I really like the two versions of "Acknowledgement" that add Archie Shepp and Art Davis to the Quartet. Yes, I think all concerned (okay, Trane) made the right decision to use the Quartet version of this for the real release. BUT I still like the sextet versions. Love that arco bass!

Yes, just one and a half cds of June on that set. If you want just a taste or a teaser of the Lee material, there's a short cd with some of these great sides. . .

Right, Sun Ship is one of those nonRVG Impulses. But great music. Your post inspired me to cue it up (I've been listening to the Classic Quartet box set via my iBook for a few days.)

For me it's "Crescent," one of my very faves.

I'm going to pick up the Mosaic on their next sale.

Bol, pretty prominent really. A lot of it is small group stuff centered on his guitar. . . other guitars present too. . . I think you'd dig it, especially if you like those Benny appearances by Peggy. She's just such a wonderful singer. . . I resisted her a long time but now I've become sort of a nutty Lee completist. . . . In the Mosaic set there's nice stuff by Christy too, another singer I've come to love. (I'm tipping my hat to Rob Green, infrequent poster here, who has helped me navigate through the recordings of Peggy and June!)

So what have you put together as a stereo system? I'm a Decware user . . . www.decware.com . . . have their modified cd player, Zbox, EL34 Monoblock amps and Radial speakers. The flexibility of the latter has really meant that I enjoy cd playback more than ever before. Curious to the solution you've found. . . . Thanks.

Very interesting two cd release which is being sold right now by cduniverse for ELEVEN DOLLARS. They've included all the performances EXCEPT for the fascinating two selections fronted by Larry Lee, damn it. (Mastermind Man, Gypsy Woman). And of course there are only occasional sonic evidence of Larry, Juma and Jerry if you listen really really hard. It has always always really burned me up that they recorded this with an ear to ingnoring totally the expansion of the band. That said. . . .Man the picture is better on the original version, there's about 23 more minutes of stuff, the thing looks better because they remixed it with more camera angles, etc. AND the black and white film I find pretty fascinating in its way. Some reviews of this say that most will just watch the "Second Look" once; I'm going to watch that more than once. What is that woman holding throughout the performance? A cat?
