I really think that Wake of the Flood is an excellent album. . . It was the first that came out under their own label, and everything was different about it: the weight of the vinyl, the production, the sound. . . . I think it holds up very well. Blues for Allah, Ace and Mars Hotel share this sort of vibe . . . They are the studio lps I value the most.

I have a Sonor Performer set, pewter finish, but I can't bring myself to sell it or parts of it. . . .

I really like the Kid Ory, and I think you will too. A working band, a solid and sure group that knows the material and each other. Traditional repretoire done without a sense of "preservation." GREAT sound.

I think you may be right David, I seem to think of a version with Nance and Baker in the late forties, but I may be mistaking it for something from the fifties. . . It's such a great song, and nice performances of it are out there. . .

Well, they were studio jams that were similar in some ways to the JATP on stage jams. Usually long selections with stars of the Granz stable combined. 1 and 2 were the great alto player jams (Hodges, Parker et al), 3 and 4 had Basie at the keys and players such as DeFranco and Getz and Gray and Smith and Jones, etc. Most of the really good guys that Granz produced had a turn here or there. As a body of work it's quite interesting and impressive. . . some volumes better than others of course, but I've been waiting for a nice package like this for some time!

I've been considering the sale of my copies of the first twenty Dukes on Chronogical Classics as well. Anyone that wants to give me a little personal nudge is welcome to. . .

Looks to me as if there's nothing extra, and they're not LOADED discs (two jams per disc on four discs, on on the last. . . . At least they're at a good price here. . . .

Yes, it's a very nice cd, that Bush Dance, been enjoying the lp for some time. That is sort of how Griff has been doing stuff the last two and a half decades or more, playing around with the structure and the form and playing his butt off. The man is a world treasure, he's been true to his muse and a solid artist for so long! Long may he reign!

You're welcome. I'm still slowly savoring the Pagel's book, and nearing the end . . . my one caveat and nit to pick about this one is that there isn't much specifically about Thomas in it! But I'm learning some about John and Iraneus that I didn't know as fully before. Interesting read!

Yes, those Gil Evans were nice to have come out, I hadn't gotten one of them befor the CCs arrived. I would love remastered versions of those by Addey or RVG.
