  1. It certainly has been done before! But when new folk arrive, the rituals are repeated. That's what you have to do to keep the tribe alive!
  2. Man, I like Cab. I have all his material up to the early forties, and some beyond that. He was a showman, sure. But he was also a savy bandleader and spotter and developer of talent, and he was a unique singer. . . !
  3. I preordered "The Complete Red Heads" on Jazz Oracle. I have most of it here and there, but since I've bought every Jazz Oracle so far, and since they've trounced other issues of the same mateiral I have, it was a no-brainer! Great music from Red Nichols, Miff Mole, et al.
  4. Okay, the root cellar was just FIGURATIVE. Garage? Tool shed? Chicken coop? I've seen DOSE in Texas!
  5. Time for Dr. Sangrey to go on down into the root cellar and brew. . . could be your ship coming in!
  6. Hey Evan, don't overdo the babes today, okay? Many happy ones!
  7. Here's part of a CNN interview about the cd: WM: That's right. The last one is titled "All Rise." And it took about six months to write. And this piece is more about the family influences on everything. The musicians on the album are younger musicians that I met when they were 12, 13, 14. And now they're in their early 20s. And the oldest musician on the album is 30 years old. And it really deals with all the trials and tribulations we've gone through. And it features lot of improvisations, very simple themes that are shot. And I wanted to come up with the type of music that shows how it feels for jazz musicians traveling on the road. When we have parties and stuff, we just play tunes and we like to play around and clown and really improvise and make the improvisations flower and have a certain type of weight.

    ELO?

Hey, that explains that. . . I'm not a Beatles fan either!

    ELO?

I couldn't really find the right answer so went with cheesy whiz.
  10. AND the best time period is 7 to 9 p.m.!
  11. Bet those Brazilian titles are great, and now you can finally get your Glenn Miller 24 bit fix y'all!
  12. Yes, it's been attributed to Hawk, and I have it on the Affinity set and I'm sure it shows up in the Classics series. But when I last listened to it a few times when getting the Oracle cd set I could believe it was not Hawk. . . .
  13. No, if I'm remembering correctly this was determined recently NOT to be a session involving Hawkins, but McCord, who was a musician in a band associated with Purvis at the time. . . . Details are in the Jack Purvis three cd set on Jazz Oracle(that I am about ten miles away from at the moment).
  14. I've been listening to a lot of Cannon lately (Capitol stuff, which I have most of but still lack a few dambit!) and this is a whole 'nother animal but one worth petting again!
  15. Yeah, WTF. I've been saying that a lot lately for a lot of reasons!
  16. Gosh Yes, Philly Joe. . . well when he's ON he was AMAZING and so powerful! And sometimes you just had to wonder, and then he'd pull it off with amazement! (And then sometimes he just NEVER got it, like in a live performance of "Rosa Mae" I have with Mary Lou Williams).
  17. Just be patient! She's a busy woman! B)
  18. Definitely! Always!
  19. Bet something arrives in the mail though!
  20. Today I didn't buy anything! Now that's progress!
  21. I'm tired. It's almost all I can remember. . . . Not sure I want it to change.
  22. FULLY UNDERSTOOD!
  23. My wife is loving that one. . . I participate sometimes reluctantly; has its moments. I love the latest teaser for tonight: "Two words. . . Oma . . . Rosa." TWO WORDS?
  24. SIMON COWELL: "IF I'm being honest here Joe, not only was that PAINFUL to watch, but you just don't LOOK like a pop star when you are doing that. . . or when you are NOT doing that."
  25. I've only seen Being John Malcovitch of the two, but thought it was genuinely funny and yes, not run of the mill; my wife and I really enjoyed it and I've been wanting to rent it lately to see it again.
