Yes, I'm home with my lovely wife watching some stupid tv and letting the dust of the day wash away. Thanks for all the presents (and thinks for posting that about those born on Augst 4!) and helping make this a good day! I'm happy to spend a bit of it with you all!

Yeah, I've had this since the cd release. VERY COOL.

Thanks again all. The day is getting better. . . . The painters elected to choose my hallway to prop a 12' x 4' sign against and roll on very aromatic white enamel paint. . . . The resulting fumes have made it hard for me to focus on my Word documents and databases BUT has also dimished my ability to give a hoot!

I enjoy his singing. . . most of the time. . . sometimes I can't stand it and I don't listen to whole cds of his singing!

I think there's room for more. There actually IS variety within the Trio format and their recordings. They occasionally release a record more reliant on original compositions (and these really have a special groove and feel to them!) as well as sortof straight and sortof notsostraight standards sessions. . . . Ah hell, I dig the group and enjoy knowing more is coming out as time goes by. This is a group that has had surprising staying power!

Marcus, nice idea for a thread! I took advantage of a reduced price at Dusty Groove and ordered the second box set of Nara Leao's Universal recordings. Quite a variety of musical and production styles are represented across the fourteen discs, but many of them are quite enjoyable. I like Nara's voice and it is more polished and pleasant here on these later recordings, in my opinion. A good cross-section of brazilan styles from the seventies through the eighties. . . .

Thanks ALL! I'm feeling less blue as the day goes along. . . !

Joe, I'm in 100% agreement with your entire post. Just finished listening to this one this morning. Great cd!

What's really complicating the matter is that the difference in copywrite laws between the US and other areas of the world. . . .

It's NOT missing any bars! Good score, man I envy the fun you'll be having! Way to go!

Oddly enough one of the most beautiful women I had ever met in my twenties was named Mary Moore, she was the office manager of the factory I worked in in Ohio for a number of years called "Besten Inc." A beautiful red head who was a very nice person as well. . . .
-
Marie was responsible for some of the artwork on his eighties and nineties releases, and was his companion for some time as far as I can tell. Quite a beautiful woman! I've never been able to corner the recording under her name but am curious! I'm certainly eager for any details as well.

Mine too, this is tempting, but I just ordered DTS #10 and the other Storyville "Jaywalker" so have to cool my heels a bit!

What non-mosaic box set is tops on your list.
jazzbo replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Well, now that I have the SECOND Nara Leao box set from Universal Brazil, I want the FIRST! -
Can't comment on the HDCD; haven't got a player that uses it working right now. I can comment on the Treasury Shows: I have all previous nine volumes, have the tenth on the way. I love this series! Lovingly done as far as sound restoration and wonderful performances! If you dig the forties Ellington they're great to have!

I've never seen Scott perform, but I have quite a few of his albums and I'm a huge fan. The one that I reach for often is "Heaven," which is a product of a collaboration with pianist Jackie Terrason, and I listen to the Savoy box set that collects his Savoy (and one Atlantic) recordings which are wonderful to my ears---showing Scott grow through the fifties and sixties and full of great music.

If one looks at the www.miles-trees.org site you'll find a list of persons willing to trade for/provide the former tree cdrs. Tree Traders

I've had Autojazz on cd for about three years or so now. Interesting album. . . . Most "Coltranelike" I've heard Wilen, and the racing motor sounds are much more an integral part of the work than for example in Le Grand Cirque. . . . Not essential Wilen for the price, but an interesting album for Wilen fans. Moderne Nostalgie is not quite Paris Moods to my ears---I don't like the instrumentation and arrangement as much---but a good album that I wish were more easily available (I wish the Alphas weren't only available as expensive Japanese imports!) I ordered my new live cd from the magazine. . .going to be exciting to receive it!

Well, my wife and I went to see this yesterday, and enjoyed ourselves. It very much is a comic book on a screen, which is a good thing, to try to makie it anything else would have been disasterous. There's plenty of comic book plot. I felt that the direction was very appropriate to that end, and very good altogether: the pace and the look and the feel were on target. I think that Halle and Ben and Sharon all turned out good performances. And for cat lovers there are nice pieces here to enjoy. And Halle . . . she is a beautiful and charming actress. My wife enjoyed as well! MUCH more than I thought she would. Glad we went.
