  1. Yes, I think this is going to be a landmark reissue (hey, it's going to be an UPTOWN reissue, they're that way for the most part, n'est ce pas?) I'm looking forward to hearing this for many reasons, including the Big Sid Catlett drum solo!
  2. Your opinion, not shared, is duly noted.
  3. Personally, I like "Blood on the Fields," and I play it more often than "Headhunters" which is okay, but really not something I need to hear a lot. I think the book on BOF and some of the writing and playing is quite good. I didn't think so immediately, I had to live with the recording a few years and get it out from time to time, but it clicked with me and I like its story and the execution quite a bit. Personally I don't think either are phenomenally important works in the scheme of things, so I've not really voted for one or the other. But if one asked me to vote for one of these, I would not choose the Hancock.
  4. Fantastic news Tony! Glad to know all are doing well, and thanks for sharing the news!
  5. Thanks for the public heads up Jim! My appetite is WHETTED!
  6. You know what, seriously: don't you think someone should make a Jennifer Lopez PEZ dispensor so it can be called "J-Pez"?
  7. J-Lo to Ben-Fleck: "When I fall in love, it will be forever."
  8. Take my wife, Please. . . .
  9. I'm not going to pay a lot for this muffler.
  10. Hey welcome back Chuck! Yeah, Jim is salt of the earth, and for putting up with him, Brenda MUST BE the finest grade of pepper! Glad you got to spend some time with them, and I know that Jim is as well.
  11. You know, thanks for bringing this thread up. I remember some great music by this band, and haven't heard it in years. They were alright, damn straight.
  12. I sent them a message as well. I think they are shortchanging jazz fans if they recommend those other two boards and not this one. They are inviting others to visit secondbest sites, when this one is right here, clearly a better home for jazz fans. (Oh, of course that's just my personal opinion, but I mean it strongly!)
  13. "It's alright John. You just solo as long as you want to. Just nudge me awake when you're done."
  14. "It ain't over til it's over."
  15. "As a good Christian, I believe in making love, not war."
  16. "I just want to be left alone."
  17. Actually Joe, saw the preview on Saturday, THIS is NEXT: This has become this
  18. Suckus Maximus. Leave well enough alone. We boomers should have SOMETHING that's sacred.
  19. Wow, I can see the ebay description now: "with hinged box, unlike the boxes currently sold by Mosaic."
  20. Great find!
  21. Hamilton or Tristano would be my vote. I think the Hamilto will disappear first of these. And not too long from now. I've had mine for years and am so glad I have!
  22. Congrats Matthew! I always wondered what this set sounds like. Thanks for the info.
  23. I think this was an enjoyable read, but I WAS disappointed that in my opinion there really wasn't much meat to the actual early history of the label and its first decade and a half of recording. This history is I think the least chronicled elsewhere, and this was a missed opportunity to make up for a deficit. I'm very interested in learning more about this, and I would have loved for there to be more material within this book.
  24. The Cathcarts are wonderful, and as far as I know also don't overlap with the Matlocks. (I have some of those and dig 'em!)
