Mel Powell “It’s Been so Long” Vanguard cd
To include the title of a Cannoball album, this is “sophisticated swing” indeed.
I almost have all of Powell on Vanguard in one form or another. Great music.
Bobby Hutcherson "San Francisco" 85th Anniversary UHQCD Blue Note Japan
Okay, this one is definitely an improvement over the previous Japanese and US cd versions.
I've been surprised that not only are there more albums than I thought I would find with a wikipedia page, but also that they generally/most of the time do reveal the release date.
Ray Bryant Trio “Con Alma” Columbia/Sony Blu-Spec CD2 2023
This is a fantastic piano trio album in EVERY way.
Followed by
“Meet Ray Bryant and Betty Carter” Columbia cd
Which includes the material on this later LP
Mmmmm… . . Betty Carter
I’m listening to this disc yet again, I’m stuck here for now in this box set.
The dynamics in this 'fifties mono recording keep impressing me. And the music really connects me lately. I’ll move forward in this box set soon.
I've had this "Blow Up" for a long time although it's been in storage about ten years. It was not recorded by Blue Note hence it was not released at the time. I remember it sounding live, all of it. . . but I have heard it in some time. Good music.
From the February batch of Blue Note Japan’s 85th Anniversary UHQCD series mastered by Kevin Gray.
