  7. Max has swallowed up HBO, no stand alone HBO any longer.
  8. Toninho Horta “Once I Loved” Verve cd
  9. I own that too. I like the BBC sessions better by more than a few hairs. Right now My copy of the Barylli Quartet’s Beethoven String Quartet cycle arrived today from Japan, reissued in the UHQCD format. Beethoven: The Complete String Quartets [Limited Release] [UHQCD] Barylli Quartet CD Album A budget production in that it comes in a clamshell sort of box with plastic sleeves and a booklet, but the UHQCD format is handsome and the sound is quite good as far as mastering goes. The sonic character is typical of well-recorded early fifties mono, and though I wish there were a bit more “oomph” to the cello, there’s little else to complain about. So far I’d say that the interpretation is not too adventurous but plenty expressive. Will be interesting to hear the entire cycle. I notice that Japan has also reissued a five cd set of the Mozart quartets by these gents on this label, as well as a single cd of the quintets. . . in UHQCD. I ordered those.
  10. I took it slowly but it was rewarding. I'm in my slow and steady in rotation listen to the box for a second time, and I think over time I'll listen to it more often than the other material.
  11. If you can, check out the BBC box set. . . better than the other albums imo.
  12. Starting the day off with this one again before it travels back to the shelves. Terri Lyne Carrington “New Standards, Vol. 1”
  13. This one again. It sounds so good. erri Lynn Carrington "New Standards, Vol. 1"
  14. George Coleman “In Baltimore” Reel to Real cd
  15. Started Beacon 23. The latest episode of All Creatures Great and Small. . . really got me.
  16. “Evenings at the Village Gate” SHM-SACD I can get used to the not-so-fantastic sound. . . but I’m not sure I’ll ever get used to the green Impulse labels on these SHM-SACDs!
  17. Terri Lyne Carrington “New Standards, Vol. 1” 679×679 50.1 KB Great start to a cold quiet post-Super Bowl morning.
  18. Powerful. I have in-laws that would probably burn this one.
  19. Turning to the “Art of the Vegh Quartet” box set to listen to the earliest Mozart string quartets. My Dad was a huge Mozart fan. . . me not so much. But I do llike this Quartet and the sound is nice this morning. Fiona the dachshund is restless though so I’ll see if I can make it through the disc. Disc 9
  20. On another forum someone was playing tis Lawrence Brown disc and so I pulled a few Verve Elite cds from the shelves. Hard to believe this series was introduced about 25 years ago! I made sure to get all of them at the time. Lawrence Brown had such a great sound and Ellington loved to feature him. This cd reissue has an additional two tracks compared to the original LP. Lawrence Brown “Slide Trombone” Verve Elite cd
  21. Rudy's then job was to capture it and finally present it the way the producer wished most likely. I am in fact saying that imo others (or RVG for another producer later) tamed the entry in comparison to the earlier mastering.
  22. I don't disagree, and I'm one of Teefski's biggest fans, but on the original RVG mastering that note is blasted out--later versions have tamed its entrance. RVG intended to accent that sonic arrival.
