Wayne Shorter “Adam’s Apple” Blue Note Universal Japan UHQCD 2024 The first batch of these new 85th Anniversary Blue Note cds arrived this afternoon. Decided to spin this one first, after listening to three tracks the most recent previous cd release from Japan. This one sounds a bit improved in ways that I like the sound to be: a bit mellower, a bit less of a front projected image.

Jobim at a peak of his creativity showcasing wonderful compositions with the amazing arranging and orchestrations of Claus Ogerman. Jobim strutting his stuff in his finest livery. I know of it and know his association goes bak five decades--but I have not found a copy I can afford of their release together. Edit to add: I decided to pay more than I wanted to for a cd copy.

I have to admit that is true for me too. My favorite of his that I have heard is the live 2 cd set. I really really enjoy the playing of the trio backing him, his playing not so much.

“Albare plays Jobim–A Tribute to Antonio Carlos Jobim” I could probably do with fewer orchestration, but I can tune them out for the most part. Nice interpretations on Les Paul guitar.

Jean-Michel Proust "To Barney, Vol. 1" I think anyone interested in jazz would love the two volumes Proust has put out honoring the strong influence Barney Wilen has had on his art, and the sound is stunningly good.

It was 1 F this morning. Now it's 7 F. At least the high wind of last week and the start of the week seems to have ceased.

This is a two disc set, one Blu-ray Audio, one SACD. I can’t play the Blu-ray Audio in my system at the moment, though it sounds fantastic. (2L stuff always does). The SACD also sounds fantastic and is in play right now. There is Beethoven here. . . some great Schubert as well.
