  1. A very interesting (not fringe) book that I wish I could read at the same time as my late father.
  2. Grateful Dead “Blues for Allah” Mobile Fidelity SACD. Garcia plays such amazing guitar on this one; that Irwin guitar was such a great tool in his hands. 1000×1000 217 KB Followed by Antonio Carlos Jobim “Stone Flower” CTI/King Records Japan RVG Edition SHM-CD This is a lovely sounding reissue.
  3. 1m 596×591 110 KB Chet Baker Strollin’ Enja/Solid Records Japan. Chet with just Philip Catherine on guitar and Jen-louis Rossinfosse on bass. Recorded live at the 7th Jazz Festival Münster, West Germany, June 1985.
  4. I've been amazed by Gaye for many decades. His was an amazing musical mind.
  5. I believe there is one ringer--"These Foolish Things." IIRC that was only recorded in one take, which I don't believe was released on any of the original Emarcy LPs.
  6. Yes “Tales from Topographic Oceans” Japan SACD, disc 1
  7. Clifford Brown Max Roach Quintet “Daahoud” Mainstream/Mobile Fidelity cd Alternate takes from two EmArcy albums by the Quintet.
  8. Stan Getz Quintets: The Clef & Norgran Albums, disc 3 The mastering on this set is very good. So is the music!
  9. Moacir Santos "Carnival of the Spirits" Blue Note Japan cd
  10. Les McCann "Never a Dull Moment" 2 cd set, disc 2 RIP Les. Thanks for all the great music.
  11. “Classic Don Byas Sessions 1944-1946” Mosaic Records, disc 2 Yet another excellent Mosaic box set. Byas deserves this deluxe treatment and there is a great trove of previously unreleased material here.
  12. PM'd you about a copy listed for sale.
  13. Duke Ellington “The Great Paris Concert” Atlantic 2 cd set, disc 2 600×600 106 KB This one lives up to its title as being a heckuva night with the Orchestra in a beloved city.
  14. Miles Davis “In Tokyo” Sony Blu-Spec CD2 2023. The Mark Wilder master done in Blu-Spec CD2.
  15. Fourth day with in-laws from Austin yesterday, a lot of fun with the two youngsters. Glad to be sitting in front of the stereo! A very pretty album for a rainy cold winter morning. Harry Allen “Something about Jobim” Stunt cd Authentic Brazilian vibe with Helio Alves, Joyce and her husband Tutty Moreno on board.
  16. Eliane Elias “Fantasia” Blue Note cd This is a beautiful trio album interpreting Brazilian compositions in a fresh manner. Perfect for this misty morning.
  17. “Albare Plays Jobim–A Tribute to Antonio Carlos Jobim”
  18. 599×600 101 KB Carmen McRae and Dave Brubeck (Trio) “Take Five (Recorded Live At Basin Street East)” Sony Japan Blu-Spec CD What an artist Carmen was! A storyteller and approached some singing as if she were an instrumentalist. I always get a smile listening to her.
  19. Miles Davis “In Person Friday and Saturday Nights at the Blackhawk” Sony Blu-Spec CD2, 2023, 2 cd set, disc 2 Followed by Miles Davis, “Bitches Brew” Sony Blu-Spec CD2, 2023, disc 2 Followed by Duke Pearson, “The Right Touch” Blue Note Japan 2015 cd Followed by Santana “Abraxas” Mobile Fidelity Labs SACD [IMG]679×679 175 KB
  20. Helen Merrill “The Nearness of You” from The Complete Helen Merrill on Mercury box set Some great playing here accompanying her unique voice and phrasing.
  21. Keith Jarrett/Gary Peacock/Jack DeJohnette "Standards Live" ECM cd Cover drawing by Franz Kafka. Stylistically I would have guessed. . . Miles Davis.
  22. SFJazz Collective “Original Compositions and Works by Herbie Hancock” disc 2
  23. Similar presentation in the Illinois Jacquet box if I am not mistaken. It has never really been off-putting for me.
  24. On another board there was discussion of jazz vocalist favorites, and I was going to play a Helen Merrill disc next, but couldn’t find it easily, so opted for this because I wanted to hear some Joel Ross, and there’s some of his vibes here. Greg Spero (piano) Makaya McCraven (drums) Marquis Hill (trumpet) Joel Ross (vibraphone) Jeff Parker (guitar) Darryl Jones (bass) Irvin Pierce (tenor sax)
