Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers “Just Coolin’” Blue Note cd This was a rejected session that finally saw the light of day this decade. Not as polished as some sessions but good tunes and playing and sound.

Binged "Lessons in Chemistry" with my wife, which was quite enjoyed. Started "Loki" Season 1.

This one again before it goes back into the shelves. Disc 1 again too because I didn’t get enough of it before. A very nice live recording of intriguing music. Thelonious Monk “Genius of Modern Music Vol. 1” Blue Note Japan 85th Anniversary UHQCD I sometimes wonder: what if Ike hadn't brought Monk forward to Alfred and Frank?

In musical form it truly is a "Rhapsody." And it's "Blue." Recorded jazz wasn't even ten years old when it was recorded, and barely a recognized form any longer if that among most music listeners. It had novel elements and was written to be popular and catchy. Looking at it through eyes one hundred years older . . . yeah it doesn't look the same as it did then or even sixty years ago. I like it, a lot. I get that others don't. I don't share Iverson's view of it.

"Herbie Nichols Trio" Blue Note Japan 85th Anniversary UHQCD Fantastic music I will likely never tire of. This edition sounds very very good. The piano detail especially draws one in. It doesn't quite unseat my previous favorite editon, the Japanese "24 bit by RVG" which has such a meaty presentation.

Curiosity got the best of me and I finally ordered a copy of this one. Interesting, enjoyable. . . short. Duke Ellington “The Conny Plank Session” The third version of "Afrique" especially is quite involving, and it really shows what a presentation my amp the Decware SEWE300B can dish out!

Gershwin is the sound of my life--I grew up with it, one of my Dad's top two composers. And I'll never forget listening to the earliest 'twenties performances of RIB with him.

Keith Jarrett "Treasure Island" Impulse/UMG reissue LP 2016 Got this for a bargain price, replacing a worn out OG. This has always been a favorite Jarrett Impulse, and all it really needs is more Sam Brown--wish he were on all tracks here.

Horace Silver “Blowin’ the Blues Away” Blue Note Japan 85th Anniversary UHQCD

Antonio Carlos Jobim and Banda Nova “Familia” Som Livre cd (also issued as “Amazonas”) Almost 20 years after the masterwork “Matita Pere” Tom and his band of friends and family revisit much of the material in condensed new arrangements. The production and mix by Jacques Morelenbaum are part of the unique, dense sound this one has, and the four lovely singers in the chorus bring an extra alluring texture. A good one indeed for a rainy Sunday morning.
