1. A cool morning, it’s early, eerily quiet and still. I love living off the beaten path. Starting off with another disc from “Enjoying the Ride,” the most recent Grateful Dead big box set. Oakland Coliseum Arena, Oakland, CA (12/27/89) (disc 3) 254×200 12.1 KB
2. I think this is Joshua Redman’s first for Blue Note, “Words Fall Short.” I really like it.
3. Blossom Dearie “Blossom Time at Ronnie Scott’s” Fontana/Universal Japan SHM-CD Such a great listen. For a Ronnie Scott’s recording, pretty darned good. Blossom Dearie – piano, vocals Jeff Clyne – double bass Johnny Butts – drums Recorded 1966
4. Jethro Tull “Still Living in the Past” cd 3 (mostly Steven Wilson 2025 remixes of sides 3 and 4 of the original 2 LP set)
5. Frankie Trumbauer and his Orchestra “1927-1928” Chronogical Classics cd BIX!!
6. Tonight at Noon, “To Mingus with Love” Prophone cd Hammond organ and horns Mingus!
7. Back at the stereo for a bit. Pulled out Dexter Gordon "Our Man in Paris" 24 Bit by RVG Blue Note Japan cd Earl "Bud" Powell on the piano chair makes this a special session. There are perhaps better sounding digital editions, but I still like this one, it's "earthy" sounding to me.
8. SF Jazz Collective “Live 2009 – 6th Annual Concert Tour – The Works Of McCoy Tyner Plus New Compositions” disc 1 Dave Douglas on trumpet, Joe Lovano on tenor, Renee Rosnes on piano, Robin Eubanks on trombone, Matt Penman on bass, and Eric Harland on drums
9. Starting off another deliciously cool morning with another disc from the Grateful Dead "Enjoying the Ride" 60th Anniversary box set, Oakland Coliseum Arena, Oakland, CA (12/27/89) disc 2
10. Miles Davis “Water Babies” Sony Blu-Spec CD2 I was so excited when this LP was first released. And I remain excited about this music!
11. Two different Kurt Elling albums. First: “Dedicated to You: Kurt Elling sings John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman” Then “Superblue: Guilty Pleasures, Vol. 2”
12. Bill Evans “Some Other Time: The Lost Session From The Black Forest” Resonance 2 cd set, disc 2
13. Bob Dylan “Time Out of Mind” Sony Blu-Spec CD2 This is such an amazing, powerful album. The new remix is good, but I find that I prefer the original mix–maybe because I have had it so long, but maybe because the swampy density of the sound just seems appropriate for the material. I’ll never tire of this work–the songs, the sequencing, the mood.
14. One for All “Too Soon to Tell” Sharp Nine cd I believe this is their first as an outfit, sounding quite appropriate after the Harrell disc.
15. Starting off a deliciously cool morning with some cool and sophisticated music . . . sounding so so good. Tom Harrell “Prana Dance” High Note cd Wayne Escoffrey and Johnathan Blake are so good here, as always.
16. IMMANUEL WILKINS, KENDRICK SCOTT, GERALD CLAYTON, JOEL ROSS, MATT BREWER “OUT OF/INTO–Motion I” Blue Note cd I sure hope there is a followup release from this excellent group.
17. The London Mod Blossom Dearie! Blossom Dearie “That’s Just the Way I Want to Be” Fontana/Universal Japan SHM-CD She’s so cool.
18. A compilation of CTI items (most previously unreleased) by Benson. Nice disc. George Benson “Space” CTI King Jazz Japan cd
19. From the Grateful Dead “Enjoying the Ride” 60th Anniversary box set, Oakland Coliseum Arena, Oakland, CA (12/27/89) disc 1
20. Gary Peacock–he always amazes me with his imagination and technique. Keith Jarrett/Gary Peacock/Jack DeJohnette “Yesterdays” ECM cd 240×240 12.2 KB
21. Listening to “Murder Most Foul” first. Bob Dylan “Rough and Rowdy Ways” Sony Japan 2 cd set.
22. A thunderstorm woke us up and I for one had a hard time going back to sleep so I got up to do some listening. This solo piano disc (like the other three in the series on Adventure Music) is fascinating and in great sound and perfect for this time of the day/night. Great selections as well–a few originals and well chosen pieces.
