Lee Morgan - Complete Live at the Lighthouse

According to the booklet "Ceora" had a one minute length due to the tape running out so they did not include that extremely truncated piece. -
Yes, the mixing has really brought the presentation forward and added clarity to the instrumental separation.

It's an interesting painting (by Abrams). Would be nice to know something about the chosen imagery.

Listening to the entire disc right now. One should have no fear for the sound--the origina recordings are really good and the mastering is very nicely done. Performances are excellent as well--Bud in fine form, accompanists and Moore and Byas are right there with him as well. Looking forward to Stockholm/Oslo! Edit to add: there's some tape anamolies on the session with Moore and Byas that appear after Moore's solo cut, or perhaps the remaining two tracks were LP dubs. But nothing that prevents one from getting really into the fine playing.

This weekend Lucy and I watched "The Queen's Gambit" and really enjoyed it. I'll be watching "Doom Patrol" this week. I love this show.

Spinning this one to start the day because I had to stop it fifteen minutes in yesterday to deal with family stuff and the system was shut down for the rest of the day. . . . Bud is playing really well here. Bud Powell “1962 Copenhagen” new Steeplechase cd

Sorry to hear that. I felt pretty crappy for a few days but it was so short-lived I am not sure it's COVID related. I've gone back to wearing a mask. . .in part because so few are wearing them around here, and less than have the persons in the county elegible to be vaccinated have been so . . .there are a lot of liars out there not wearing masks when they should be.

I don't know definitively about sources but I have been picking up all the cd releases I can of Ra material under the new reissue team and man when I compare one of the new to an Evidence release. . . there's no comparison, the new is a marked improvement. We're entering into audiophile territory here and though I'd rather have this material in any form than not have it, I can honestly say I enjoy listening to the new versions when I can.

Lee Morgan - Complete Live at the Lighthouse
jazzbo replied to Mark13's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I'm a third or so of the way through this set. The booklet is quite interesting containing reminiscences from DeJohnette, a lengthy interview with Jymie Merritt that is educational, pieces by the reissue team, info about the venue and the life of this Quintet, pieces about Mabern and Roker, a piece by Maupin, a bit about the recording and mastering, etc. Lots of neat photos of Mogie and the band members. The sound of the cd version is very good imo. The notes mention an extensive remix and it does not share the same sonic signature as the previous releases--a bit more forward, a bit less thick sounding, lively and with great instrumental separation and a nice realistic tonal balance. I'm very happy to have this. I ordered the UHQCD version from Japan in part because I collect Japanese Blue Note editions and also so that I can give this version to my best friend for Christmas who won't buy it himself even though he's a trumpeter and a Morgan fan. -
I got interrupted about 15 minutes in and had to shut down the system. But: sound is good, what I heard was very much in line with all the other Steeplechase Bud.

Yes I ordered directly from that page. Another 5 dollars for postage, and I had it within a week. Ronnie Ball is a good guess as pianist. . . it doesn't sound like Nichols to me, at least not first listen. -

My Morgan at the Lighthouse cd set has arrived, and the first disc is playing. Sound is quite nice indeed! The booklet also appears very nice. -

There are 11 songs and they're good ones. Her voice is brighter than it was even 3 years later, a shade brighter and her phrasing and interpretations are nearly there. It's an interesting release, the unknown trio does a nice suportive job. Out here in my little home across from the state wildlife preserve there are many squirrels, the black squirrels came into the area about 3 years ago and account for about one third f them in the immediate acres. The real ones with no respect out here are the coyotes. Just a few seen but they have taken their toll on the pet population. Fiona doesn't bother with the squirrels. There are so many, she saves her strength like a good old broad does. I edited the post because the disc ended and i had to get up and change discs. It's 35 minutes. . . which could put it in as a long demo, most likely it was the result of one studio session, seems that way. My Fiona, who was rescued from a puppy mill, has a beanie baby dachshund that she cherishes. In the evening she brings it up to the couch and cleans it and snuggles it and sometimes falls asleep with it in her mouth. She has had it over three years and it looks pristine. . . but so much slobber has been applied and dried it can't be. I guess it's her maternal instinct's object of affection. -

Sheila Jordan "Comes Love: Lost Session 1960" Listening to this now--arrived yesterday. An interesting release--better singing than on a number of albums of the time and the sound is decent.
