  1. People seem to pooh-pooh the product but I find textured protein works quite well as a ground beef substitute with strong spicing. But. . . only kidney beans? That's such an Eastern US thing. These days I make big pots of chili to deiiver to my Dad. I use pinto, black beans and kidney beans--he loves it that way. But for myself I usually don't include the kidney beans.
  2. Actually I first heard this in the box set and wasn't paying attention to the album title but was amazed at the great arrangements for a hard bop quintet and the drumming of Max "The Architect" Roach. Another great thing about this disc besides the great sound is it cotains alternates.
  3. The Awakening "Mirage" Black Jazz/Real Gone Music cd
  4. Japan LP facsimile 24/96 remastered cd "Clifford Brown and Max Roach At Basin Street"
  5. Miles Davis "Bootleg Series Vol. 6: The Final Tour" Blu-Spec CD2 edition, Japan. Disc 4 the second Stockholm show.
  6. "Le Ca: New York Romance" Barney Wilen, Venus CD. I have three different cover versions of this release because it's an absolute favorite. Each feature his lovely companion, Marie Moor. This is an RVG recording, and you can sense the seriousness and yet joy of recording in this venue that Wilen likely felt. And it is a great showcase for the beautiful beautiful sound that Wilen got out of all the horns he played. Beautiful sound, beautiful melody and innovative interpretation. He was a master who should have recorded more, but I think he recorded just as much as he wanted to. Bass – Ira Coleman Drums – Lewis Nash Soprano Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Saxophone – Barney Wilen Piano: Kenny Barron Recorded at the Rudy Van Gelder Studio, Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey on June 19-20, 1994.
  7. Thanks. I have all the Bechet thanks to a member here--and that is a treasure trove containing some material I never knew existed, and all the Christians and Young and most of the Ellington and Holiday. Slowly over time I'll complete those issued and be done. An excellent label that released discs that remain very valuable for collectors.
  8. Found both volumes, ironically outside of this advertised "WTB."
  9. Found Vol. 5. Still looking for Vol. 6.
  10. Yes. This is a great disc if you are a Merrill fan. Alice Coltrane "Kirtan: Kuriya Sings" Impulse/Universal Japan SHM-CD A newly configured version (stripped down) of the original (cassette) release from Alice Coltrane. Pretty amazing actually. I ordered this months ago from Japan and didn't realize there was a US release as well. That one is arriving today. I'll be able to do a comparison.
  11. A new Helen Merrill release from Japan! "With Friends in Yachiyoza" Helen Merrill, Masahiko Sato, Hozan Yamamoto, Sakai Benisuki
  12. Yes. I have all of the eleven volumes except 2, 5 and 6. I don't need the material on 2, but need parts of 5 and 6 or suspect that some parts will sound better on these volumes than where I have them. http://countbasie.client.jp/discography/disco_30s.html
  13. Looking for two volumes in the Masters of Jazz (Media7, France} series of cds, "Volume 5 1937 - 1938" and "Volume 6 1938." I am willing to pay $30 each including postage or shipping if in very good shape or better and complete. Please email me at lonjazz@yahoo.com or PM here if you have either or both for sale, Thanks!
  14. Took me some time to find this one--and even got ripped off by one seller first. But it's wborth it--all airchecks, from The Chatterbox and the Savoy Ballroom. Count Basie "Vol.4 1937" Masters of Jazz cd Still looking for a few more volumes. Followed by Joe Henderson "Mirror, Mirror" Joe Henderson - tenor saxophone Chick Corea - piano Ron Carter - bass Billy Higgins - drums
  15. Here in my county of Geauga only half the people are vaccinated, but almost no one wears masks. So there's a lot of lying dogs out there as only those who are fully vaccinated are supposed to be maskless according to the state. (I have in-laws who deny the seriousness of the situation and are anti-vaxers as well as believers in so many ridiculous conspiracy theories that I don't want to be around them--they are unvaccinated and not wearing maks).
  16. I'm bringing my masks back out and into the washing machine. . . they'll be in use again soon.
  17. I agree. The new reissue sounds very good as well.
  18. Bill Evans "Behind the Dikes" 2 cd set, disc 1 I always enjoy this trio with Marty Morell. Do I really need another Bill Evans Trio release? Guess so . . . .
  19. I think it's an organ. Right now Something different that I'm enjoying. Orville Peck "Pony"
  20. Alice Coltrane (with strings) "World Galaxy" 60th Anniversary SHM-CD Japan One of my favorite Alice releases in great sound.
  21. Two new arrivals that I am really enjoying the first disc of (both are 2 cd sets) Roy Hargrove and Mulgrew Miller "In Harmony" I'm enjoying this more than I anticipated. The sound is quite good and the playing captured my attention and would not let go. Roy Brooks "Understanding" Woody! Carlos! Harold! Cecil! The mastering is quite good, making this one of the best Left Bank Society recordings I've heard.
  22. I recommend checking out "Evil" before the trial ends. It's one of my favorite current shows, a real hoot.
  23. Alice Coltrane "Ptah the El Daoud" Impulse/Universal Japan SHM-CD Alice Coltrane — harp, piano Pharoah Sanders — tenor sax, alto flute, bells Joe Henderson — tenor sax, alto flute Ron Carter — bass Ben Riley — drums
