  1. I reacted in a similar way. If you haven't, check out "Rainbow Sign."
  2. Steve Ellington was also on two of Sam River' Blue Note titles.
  3. Hermeto Pascoal "Hermeto" Muse LP My listening companion Fiona the dachshund is letting me know it's too hot to listen up here but I just have to play this one when I pulled it out of the shelf today . . . a record that always rewards a re-listen.
  4. "Wednesday Miles" and "Thursday Miles" from "Miles Davis at Fillmore" (record 1) Nearly five full decades later I still love the sound of this 2 LP set.
  5. Listening to disc 2. Wow. This alternate mix is fascinating. A real addition to the release. And the foil cover on the 2 cd set is very attractive.
  6. Relistening to this one, at home this time on the main system. Sound is better than in the car (of course) and though not top-notch is enjoyable. I still feel that the performance isn't too engaging until later in the concert. So it gets better as it goes along. I do like the work of this trio. Bill Evans Trio "On a Friday Evening" Craft Records/Concord cd
  7. Two new arrivals. . . . Sun Ra "Languidity" 2 cd reissue. I listened to the first disc. Excellent mastering. Bill Evans "On a Friday Evening" cd release. Listened to this twice while going to and from my Dad's in the car. Sound is okay, not fantastic, and to me it seemed less involving than some of the more recent Evans trio releases, Evans in particular seemed to be less "into it" . . . . I'll listen again soon on the main system and see if with more focus and better playback that impression changes.
  8. I realized I haven't heard the true stereo version of "Milestones" in a long time so I climbed up and pulled down this box set and am listening to the appropriate tracks on discs 2 and 3. My stereo has changed somewhat since I last heard these discs and the sound is pretty darned good, though I have better sounding versions of the mono master. The Complete Columbia Recordings of Miles Davis and John Coltrane"
  9. I suspect that will change soon. https://www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/UCCV-45001
  10. SFJazz Collective "Miguel Zenon Retrospective: Original Compositions 2006 to 2014"
  11. Sabrina Malheiros "Dreaming" A fun pop/nu-bossa release from this lovely Brazilian singer, daughter of the famed bassist Alex Malheiros.
  12. The Japanese 2 cd set has been moved back to November.
  13. Time again for one of my very favorite recordings, this time in the US 40th Anniversary CTI cd edition. Antonio Carlos Jobim "Stone Flower"
  14. Going to be hot here today, getting some listening in early. David Sanchez, "Street Scenes" Columbia cd. Felt like hearing his unique blend of latin elements into modern jazz. Great sounding recording too.
  15. Miles Davis "ESP" Mobile Fidelity SACD This music never gets old.
  16. Airto, featuring Flora Purim and Hermeto Pascoal "Seeds on the Ground" One Way cd I'd love a Mobile Fidelity SACD of this. Never happen, but still. . . . Great music.
  17. Speaking of Flora and Raulzinho this is fantastic and his playing makes it for me:
  18. Albare, "The Road Ahead" Like every one of his albums I have heard this is recorded more than a bit "hot" but a really nice guitar sound (Les Paul it seems).
  19. Tony Williams "Tokyo Live" Blue Note 2 cd set, disc 1 Been too long since I spun this. Enjoying the revisit. The system is sounding so good lately. I just wish I had more time to listen!
  20. Yes, I added it to an order I have outstanding at cdjapan; it's two cds. Lots of good stuff coming out in Japan the same day.
  21. Sad news. He was a maestro of the trombone.
  22. "Gershwin Live!" Sarah Vaughan, Michael Tilson Thomas, Los Angeles Philharmonic
  23. "The Complete Joe Henderson Blue Note Studio Sessions" Mosaic Records box set, disc 3 Remarkably good mastering.
