Most of my collection is in chaos, not really organized, but I do have my Blue Note, Impulse and Bethlehem titles arranged by label, and I have all my Miles Davis and Bob Dylan titles organized by artist and other artists partially together.

Which Jazz box set are you grooving to right now?
jazzbo replied to Cliff Englewood's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
It's all out there, but out of print now for the most part. It would be great if this were to be represented in the present excellent technology on cd. .. but it won't happen. -
Finished watching "The Boys" . . . season 2. Boy that was gritty. I sortof see where the title comes from now.

I never got to see Mingus. I did get to see and hear one of his basses. . . when I saw the Mingus Big Band in Austin.

Anthony Braxton "12 Compositions (ZIM)" Firehouse Records Blu-ray Audio disc, Composition 402 https://f4.bcbits.com/img/0024645650_10.jpg https://f4.bcbits.com/img/0024645652_10.jpg Braxton is almost always a difficult listen for me. . .I'm trying this one because it's 10 hours or so of music on a disc I got a bargain price on. I'm enjoying it a bit. . . but Fiona the dachshund just left the room!

The last reissue of the Hubbard sounds HORRIBLE, compressed, loud, squashed. That is keeping me away from pre-ordering any of this series.

Poll: Legion of Super Pets
jazzbo replied to Teasing the Korean's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I don't have any information about mob involvement in the print distribution in Philly. . . I was too young to have any concept of mob control of trades or industry. I was always in the inner city . . .I was a city boy complete with the diversity and violence that entailed (gangs going up and down the street, my mother nearly strangled to death in our own kitchen, and more). I suspect a lot of places carried these items because they sold. I remember making an effort to get to the racks when the new titles came out so I didn't miss out. Usually there were more than a few kids looking at and for copies. I know I even traveled a number of blocks every other week or so to a distant store that kept boxes of 12 cent titles with half the cover snipped off that he sold for 5 cents. . . I got a lot of back issues that way. I was into collecting. . . that was probably the start that then led to books, records, instruments and cds. -
Gonzalo Rubalcada Trio "Supernova" Blue Note cd Gonzalo Rubalcaba on piano, bassist Carlos Henriguez, and drummer Ignacio Berroa This is perhaps a more traditionally Cuban album than the others of his I have heard. Nice recording!

Well of course there were regional differences, cultural differences. . . I sure learned that living in Texas over 32 years and doing some traveling within the state. I should have been clearer that I was thinking of regional distribution differences--Philly had distributors for every kind of reading product that was stapled or bound. . . areas of Texas possibly had a less inclusive system of distribution. There's a lot of miles and gasoline in between. -

Well it might be a regional thing as in Philadelphia Marvel was everywhere and in the neighborhood I grew up in (blocks away from Connie Mack Stadium) every corner store had a spinner rack or magazine bookcase full of the entire Marvel line from '62 to '66 when I was 7 to age 11a nd already collecting. I spent every dollar I could on Marvel comics and Ace science fiction "doubles." I was not allowed to read comics, which made a collector out of me. . . I'd buy them and hide them, at one point at a neighboring friend's bedroom. When I was 9 in '64 my Dad said okay, if you want to waste your money on that trash. . . and the next day he was shocked to see a stack of them in my room, retrieved from hiding places. In comparison to Marvel to me DC seemed vapid and uninvolving. I did like Green Lantern because of the Gil Kane art. . . but that was it. For me it was a Marvel world. It was quite an adaptation to at age 11 move to Africa for nearly six years. . . comic books were few and far between. -

I learned to read as the Marvel age was beginning. DC was something I looked at now and then. Marvel had very few pets. Lockjaw qualified. I'll vote for him. -

Arrived in the mail, the expanded 50th Anniversary Edition of this Grateful Dead classic: I've held off listening to this one for some time knowing an anniversary edition was imminent. Disc 1, the original album, sure sounds wonderful. I totally dig the Plangent Process and what it does.
