"Duke Ellington's Far East Suite" Sony Japan cd It's odd. I used to avoid this one so that it wouldn't become "too familiar." That was probably good because now I find so much to love in this recording! John Lamb is so bitchin' here with Duke as he always is.

Dave Douglas "Brazen Heart--Live at the Jazz Standard 2015" disc 3 Very interesting music. Encompassing many modern styles with a touch of past styles as well. Good live sound.

Blue Note "The SP Days, 1939 to 1952" disc 6 "Back Room Sessions on Blue Note"--all sessions feature Art Hodes on piano.

These sessions are Sammy Benskin Trio, Jimmy Shirley, Pig Meat Markham, Clyde Berhardt and his Kansas City Buddies, Vic Dickenson Quartet

I like it a lot. The "1970" set has some interesting variants in it. I bought Dylan up through the live stuff with the Band and a few boots and then went totally back into jazz only for the longest time. . . rediscovering Bob with the Bootleg Series and have since gotten all the official releases. He fascinates the hell out of me.

On to one of my favorite Ellington sets, Volume 2 of "Duke Ellington 1947-1952" from CBS France. These years were a cornucopia of Ellington fun and finesse.

I love this period of Blue Note history and value all that I have of it, which is nearly all, in various formats. I was hoping for a revisiting of this material with contemporary analog to digital conversion tech, but have given up hoping that will happen. It's certainly possible to be content with what we have. . . .
