  1. Wow, that's great. I would almost have mistaken you for one of my high school classmates and friends, chef Andy Humbert.
  2. Duke Pearson "Sweet Honey Bee" Blue Note Japan SHM-CD. Made sense to play this one, same crew as "Wahoo" except Freddie Hubbard for Donald Byrd and Ron Carter for Bob Cranshaw.
  3. Duke Pearson "Wahoo" Blue Note Japan cd A great Joe Henderson sideman appearance.
  4. I hadn't thought of that. I chose UPS too after the experience of USPS being battered in use as a political tool in the fall and delivery then and thereafter until recently being. . . problematic.
  5. It may be en route and you just weren't notified. I hope so. The opposite happened with me, I didn't get the "your order has been sent off to the warehouse to be shipped" notice, but days after others got that I got an actual shipping notice. A friend of mine had gotten the "sent to the warehouse" email, but not a shipping notice. It's a bit loosey goosey BUT so far I've always eventually gotten what I ordered.
  6. "The Complete Louis Armstrong Columbia and RCA Studio Recording 1946 to 1966" Mosaic Records, disc 4 Such fun listening to the rehearsal takes.
  7. Yes, I have it on King Jazz. If there's a better disc out there hopefully someone will put it out! I'm on disc 4 of this box set. The sound is wonderful. The rehearsal takes fun. If you think you'd like this set, get it before it's gone!
  8. Johnny Griffin "The Cat" Antilles cd Bass – Dennis Irwin Drums – Kenny Washington Piano – Michael Weiss Tenor Saxophone - Johnny Griffin Trombone – Curtis Fuller Vibraphone – Steve Nelson
  9. We all hear differently.
  10. They were also reissued in Japan on SHM-CD and they are less compressed than the US cds, sound very good to me.
  11. Eric Dolphy "Candid Dolphy" Candid/Solid Records mono cd
  12. Steve Hancoff "The Single Petal of a Rose"
  13. John, they are definitely not as responsive as they have been. They are I believe woefully understaffed at this point. But eventually it all works out. . . I still somehow have a tiny stash of patience I can dig out when needed.
  14. Johnny Griffin "Dance of Passion" Antilles cd Followed by Disc 3 "The Complete Louis Armstrong Columbia and RCA Studio Sessions 1946 to 1966" Mosaic Records
  15. I'm sure those are an oversight. . . those two have been on cd indeed. At least once. There was talk of a Lee Morgan set similar to the Mobley and now Henderson. Talk that has not yet materialized as an officially announced project at least as far as I know.
  16. Chet Baker "Sings and Plays" Pacific Jazz cd
  17. Joe Lovano "Viva Caruso" Blue Note cd
  18. "The Complete Louis Armstrong Columbia and RCA Studio Recording 1946 to 1966" Mosaic Records, disc 2 Starting right off with the trombone then voice of Jack Teagarden, a wonderful thing. Great sound on the RCA material on this set.
  19. Thanks. i got confused, it's the alternate on "Mode for Joe" that was previously only released on SHM-CD.
  20. It's my impression from reading here and there that the catalog has been transferred to hi-res digital in that time frame and up to this decade and Addey will be using the source transfers that SHM-CD and SHM-SACD were then made from, and the latest US sets, etc. New alternate takes have appeared in this time frame, but three of the alternates here have not.
  21. Cool. I'm happy for you, we're just viewing these things differently and that's cool. If your system doesn't present the two formats differently that's cool. I'm done kicking this horse. Looking forward to the set. in the meantime I'll listen to the new Armstrong set and digest the huge booklet! My comment about the "two camps" were those that are planning to get the set and those planning not to.
  22. Cool. I'm not interested in the Tone Poet, new vinly reissues don't interest me at all and are freaking expensive. And to me they are not both music, they are reproduced difffrerently enough taht I choose one format as sounding best and stick with it. When I bought the Mobley set I sold my other copies of the material on disc and actually paid for the set with the sales. So for me it was a win win--better sound, homogenous mastering over all the sessions and very little money actually out of pocket. I'm lucky in that I can get improved versions of something I have and explore other newer to me music. I know I'm fortunate. Anyway it seems clear to me the two camps here and I know which I'm in. Wonder when this will really become available.
  23. I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. I've bought Japanese cds for two reasons: availability of the material and to find better cd sound. Vinyl and digital media reproduce music and are different and to me sound different. Apples and oranges are both fruits but different. In my system LP and cd playback are fundamentally different, and comparing one to another is very problematic for me--digital 99 percent of the time sounds better to me on my system than LP playback. I don't want to argue what seems clear to me. Perhaps I'm not explaining it well but oh well.
