  1. "Lloyd Miller and the Heliocentrics"
  2. Started the day off listening to the remastered "Sign O the Times" two discs in the new Prince Super Deluxe Edition box set. This remaster is done brilliantly! Sounds tremendous.
  3. I’m waiting for my Super Deluxe Edition of “Sign O the Times” to arrive. … of couse when it does arrive I won’t be able to listen to it til tomorrow. My wife is napping right now so I’m sneaking in one disc, disc 2 of Keith Jarrett/Gary Peacock/Jack DeJohnette “Always Let Me Go–Live in Tokyo” . . . I’m just in awe of the sound of my system this last week. I found an old Bugle Boy Holland 12AU7 in one of my boxes of tubes that is the perfect tube for one of my components and just cryatalized the tonal balance I love.
  4. RIP Gary. You had a real life.
  5. Teddi King "Now In Vogue (Plus Miss Teddi King and Round Midnight)" Storyville/Muzak Japan 2 cd set. I like this material better than her later material. . . .
  6. Recent news: Ricky Riccardi rtSSlepcltapoeimubnesfr 27sn,oof or2iemt0dm19lo · !!!!!!!!!!! RED ALERT: We have discovered an unknown 37-minute reel of “Mack the Knife” outtakes, rehearsals and alternate takes, the full making of Louis’s 1955 hit!! Just have to find a place for it on the set but it WILL happen.
  7. Brubeck had a number of albums on the label before this. . . he was a jazz star on the label. I don't know. Hence I said "perhaps." Just my musing of a possible reason why these alternates were not released at a previous opportunity or two.
  8. I don't know, just suggesting that Brubeck may have had a deal to own the tapes, or a deal to retain the rights to any unissued material and the final say on their release. Brubeck had some serious sales and could have been in a position to have some control. Stranger things happen in record company contracts.
  9. Perhaps Sony does not own these tapes.
  10. I love Jimmy Ponder! I saw a review which called him a "guitarist of the Grant Green school." Not sure I would class him that way, he's his own man and may owe more to Wes than Grant. Jimmy Ponder "What's New" High Note cd
  11. Chris Anderson/Sabina Sciubba "You Don't Know What Love Is" NAIM Audio cd. with David Williams and Billy Higgins. Audiophile sound. . . great music.
  12. Finally have a copy of the Palo Alto concert of Thelonious Monk! My copy from the UK still hasn't arrived. . . so I ordered one from amazon US and it arrived today--if I get the other my youngest brother gets it, he's a jazz nut too but doesn't do much collecting as he has two "tween" girls. Sound is good. . .Now I'm a bass head (five bass guitars in my collection, plus a full size contrabass violin and an electric Stagg contravass violin) and I hardly believe I am saying this. . . but . . . I darned well wish there was about half the bass on this recording that there is, it would then be a very fi
  13. Marcela Mangabeira "Simples" Japan cd I liked the other cd version of this I have so much that when I saw a Japanese edition with a bonus track. . . well I had to get it. Nice sound!
  14. I haven't liked '90s era that I've heard enough to pursue shows. I didn't hear them at the time. By the 'eighties I was abandoning rock except playing drums in three bands over the second half of the decade--my own listening was steadily flowing into jazz, and jazz has pretty much remained my main listening staple since. So yes, I can see people "happy for a change" as I was happy to make a change away from rock in general. I didn't come back to listening to the Dead with any frequency until the middle of the 2000s when my wife came down with lymphoma and we battled that disease, ultimately unsuccessfully, for two and a half years. Downloading shows and making artwork for them gave me something to do and to listen to in hospital waiting rooms, doctor's offices, chemo clinics, and extended stay rooms (we spent nearly an entire year living in another city for cancer treatment). I felt somewhat guilty involved in all these "free shows," and bought all the official releases up through '78 and still have those, though there's dust on a number of them.
  15. I've had a lot of tapes. . . none have sounded better to me than the official versions! I get the revisionist comment. . . but I stopped with Brent. . . by 1980. Just never got into him, and I jumped off the bus and stayed off as far as anything the Dead did after that. Followed some Garcia Band after that, but not a lot.
  16. Jimmy Ponder "Something to Ponder" Muse cd

  21. Caetano Veloso "Noites do Norte"
  22. Pandemic, Fox, Breitbart, Facebook et al.
  23. No, it's just a straight reissue of a 2 LP set of RCA alternate material.
