  5. I think the answer is here, on Granz's wiki page: In 1948 Granz signed an agreement with Mercury Records for the promotion and the distribution of the JATP recordings and other recordings. After the agreement expired in 1953 he issued the JATP recordings and other recordings on Clef Records (founded 1946) and Norgran Records (founded 1953).

  9. I think it has more to do with available (or unavailable) manpower along the pressing and distribution chain than anything else.

  15. If dogs run free, then why not we Across the swooping plain? My ears hear a symphony Of two mules, trains and rain. The best is always yet to come, That's what they explain to me. Just do your thing, you'll be king, If dogs run free. If dogs run free, why not me Across the swamp of time? My mind weaves a symphony And tapestry of rhyme. Oh, winds which rush my tale to thee So it may flow and be, To each his own, it's all unknown, If dogs run free. ---Robert Zimmerman

  24. "Albare Plays Jobim" Guitarist and composer, Albare was born in Morocco and grew up in Israel and France. Although he joined at age 8 the Music Conservatory in his hometown in Israel for 2 years, his musical development was completely self-taught. These days, as Albare has lost his central vision faculties due to an genetic illness, his playing is completely by ear. In 1972 Albare discovered the sound of Jobim while watching Marcel Camus’s cult film, Orpheus Negro. The haunting melodies and unique compositions left a profound impression on the young guitarist and inspired Albare to study and play the melodic style for which he is now known for. This disc reminds me of Wes Montgomery's A&M recordings. Albare has a Wes sound (maybe he uses his thumb?) I like this.
