  1. Lee Morgan "Charisma" Blue Note "24 bit by RVG" Japan LP Facsimile cd. The only gatefold LP facsimile cd in the series I believe. Lee, Jackie, Hank, Cedar, Paul and Billy. Great music. Followed by Freddie Hubbard "First Light" CTI/Legacy edition. Freddie keeps growing on me over the years. For a long time I thought he was a technical wiz but didn't quite feel his playing. That has slowly changed. I get a lot more satisfaction out of his albums now.
  2. Bobby Hutcherson "Color Schemes" Landmark cd
  3. You're welcome. Best to Rolf.
  4. He posted three times one day this month.
  5. Agreed, it's very nice, especially as "work" listening (not that I do much of that these days).
  6. Stan Getz, Kenny Barron "People Time" box set, disc. 1.
  7. Now playing Miles Davis "Filles de Kilimanjaro" Mobile Fidelity SACD
  8. I'm listening to the birthday boy. Duke Ellington "Piano in the Background" Duke Ellington "The Cosmic Scene" Duke Ellington "Duke's Big 4"
  9. It's been a weird week plus. A loan I made a decade ago when I was more flush was unexpectedly repaid. And one of the most important components in my system started misbehaving and I ordered a newer version of it as I suddenly had that money. . . . Then I discovered that the original unit was not faulty and corrected that issue, and moved it into a headphone only system when the new unit arrived. Boy was that a step up for the headphone system! And the new component is in place in the main system and I'm having fun playing about with it. So I've been playing about with settings and tubes and gain and listening to recordings that really tell me how my system is doing, including: Duke Ellington "Indigos"--a rich, spacious recording that I was enjoying on Impex gold cd. Truly a desert island disc for me. Jazz beauty distilled into a great listening session. Helen Merrill "Brownie--Homage to Clifford Brown" on Gitanes CD. Wow, this is great music, great singing, some jaw-dropping engineering. Another that I listened to a few times was "The Day the World Stood Still" by the Andrew Hill Jazzpar Octet+1. This is a very modern sounding recording with challenging music that rewards close attention.
  10. Kamasi Washington and band were on last night's (series finale) episode of Homeland. That was a surprise!
  11. Blue Mitchell "Blue Soul" Keepnews Collection cd reissue. Nice date. Never been a fan of this type of recorded sound. . . but great music.
  12. I've had no issues other than waiting time ordering from overseas via discogs myself.
  13. All but the McLean are pretty well priced on discogs.com. . .under 20 dollars total with postage.
  14. I watched last week's WestWorld, and I am watching "Let's Go Crazy" the Prince/Grammy special.
  15. Oh hell yeah, it's gets higher end-ier. The PS Audio equipment is not the ne plus ultra. Even the P10s are no longer PS Audio's top of the line, and their front end and amplification are arguably not the top of the heap. But man, that's a lot of speakers for that room!
  16. My father loves the Schubert by Uchida and plays the sonatas all the time.
  17. I agree that it's a damned good record. @Peter DonoloMy copy of the new cd arrived. There is no indication that I can find that this "Misty" is the track that was recorded for the movie. . . all that is mentioned about this track is that it was recorded June 22, 1971, one of the sessions that produced material for the album. It appears to be a trio only selection (percussionist on the album does not appear) and its duration is 2:47. Hope that helps identify it or eliminate it.
  18. "Torino" from this box set
  19. People seem to be kvetching about it elsewhere but I really enjoyed it. Long wait for the final season I'm afraid.
  20. Wish we could tell/know what mastering will be used.
  21. My copy will arrive late Tuesday. Would be nice if that were the version, don't know. . .
  22. Finally finished listening to the June 1976 box set from the Grateful Dead. This set has me re-evaluating 1976 and had me sampling some other shows, but it wouldn't surprise me that if I listened to all that I have (and I have all the official releases) these shows might not turn out to be among the top shows. My favorite sequence of tracks I just re-listened to: “St. Stephen” “Not Fade Away” “Stella Blue” “Samson and Delilah” “Friend of the Devil” Beacon Theatre, NY, NY (6/15/76) There are killer mid-sections of "St. Stephen" and "Not Fade Away" that show that the whole band (especially Keith, who is making strong contributions) came to play and to recapture that seat-of-the-pants exploration in a new way. And there's such a languid "Stella Blue" that it's comfortably numbed with ghostly moments. The swamp funk groove of "Samson and Delilah" seems no little feat and a new groove for the band, and the country calypso of "Friend of the Devil" sells this story of the friend who hasn't yet shot the sheriff but might because he's being pursued. . . . Sound is really good on this set. GBPP (God Bless Plangent Process).
