  1. I actually think this album is quite listenable. I don't think Dylan had any hand in its release.
  2. Hello old friend! Hope you are doing well. Been neglecting Ron McKernon lately . . . need to listen to some good OLD Grateful Dead. I've got that Dick's Picks. . . either here or in storage. . . will look for it.
  3. I sprang for UPS as well and have not received a shipping notice. I'm in no particular hurry. In the recent past (Johnson set) I did receive a set without receiving a shipping notice first.
  4. Shabaka and the Ancestors "We are Sent Here by History" This will give your woofers a cold sweat. I REALLY like it.
  5. Miles Davis "My Funny Valentine" Sony DSD remastered lp facsimile cd release. I've been listening to this album more than 45 years! I have a handful of editions but like this one, which I may have played more this century than others. I'm using this version as it's so familiar it will help to evaluate a new fuse I'm trying in my power regenerator. I love this music!
  6. Weather Report "Mr. Gone" from the "Complete Studio and Live Albums" box set
  7. Art Taylor, "a.t.'s Delight" Blue Note/Analogue Productions SACD Nice date with Dave Burns on trumpet, someone who should have been recorded more often.
  8. Re-listening to the new Dave Douglas, "Dizzy Atmosphere"
  9. Thanks to John I have a few more JRVGs on the way, but these two are still available for trade.
  10. Okay, glad you know. I hear those ice cubes swishing in the glass just like I do whenever I would talk to Danny D'Imperio on the phone. Be safe and don't drive.
  11. Okay. I'm just so confused by this discussion. If you're being at all serious I like jazz with sophistication and urbanity and love jazz totally devoid of it. If you're just swirling ice cubes in a highball glass and having us all on, cool. Go head. I'll leave you to your devices.
  12. A veneer of elegance and urbanity is not a necessity for jazz in my listening world!
  13. I think I like his recorded music better than you do, haven't seem him live. I agree his music is heavy-handed and more a synchretic than pioneering work, but it's reaching people who don't necessarily respond to a lot of other jazz, and I think he's far more relevant to jazz's future than Sebesky.
  14. Someone listens to Kenton? I just don't see Kenton, or Sebesky, as relevant to the future of jazz.
  15. The new one from Dave Douglas "Dizzy Atmosphere" -- it's quite good!
  16. I think the future of jazz has more to do with artists like Sons of Kemet and Kamasi Washington and Mary Halverson than Don Sebesky . . . .
  17. Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra featuring Wynton Marsalis "The Music of Wayne Shorter," 2 cd set. I really enjoyed my first time through this set.
  18. This may well be a long shot. . . but I have two duplicate Japanese RVG titles and wonder if anyone has duplicates or unwanted ones they may wish to trade for? I have about 100 titles but am on the lookout for more. So I have an extra copy of: Thelonious Monk "Genius of Modern Music Vol. 2" Freddie Hubbard "Open Sesame" The Monk has the obi, the Hubbard does not. I am perfectly fine trading for titles without an obi. So. . . if you have a Japanese RVG to trade let me know, via PM or email me at lonjazz@yahoo.com Thanks. (Alternately if you don't like Japanese RVGs and have titles you'd like to sell . . . reasonably--I'm not paying exorbitant prices. . . send me a message. Thanks, stay healthy.
  19. Interestingly if I'm not mistaken Brookmeyer started off professionally playing piano, in bands led by Beneke and McKinney; his piano style may have been formed rather solidly before and at this time. Both these leaders were strong influences and influenced by the Glenn Miller band and bandmates. I wonder if Chummy MacGregor was an influence . . . would be interesting to make comparisons.
  20. RIP maestro.
  21. This is the version I have. Some performances are edited. About 19 minutes total I believe. https://www.kind-of-blue.de/seiten/boxen/miles_plugged_nickel_gold_box.htm
  22. I paid with PayPal so can't check my card for activity. But yeah, it'll happen. And I am knee deep in discs till it arrives. . . .
