Don Rendell/Ian Carr 5tet "Dusk Fire" SHM-CD Followed by Grant Green "Feelin' the Spirit" Blue Note Japan Universal reissue cd
-
Often a different number on the inner hub of the cd indicates that for this new release they used the mastering for the earlier release.

The Mosaic website is so 'nineties. . . and to make an addition or correction it seems they have to wait their turn on a time machine to go back to the 'nineties and perform the update. . . . .

A Jumble of Jazz CDs for Sale (Modern, Avant)
jazzbo replied to Face of the Bass's topic in Offering and Looking For...
PM on the Shepp/Parlanns, the Reece and the Donaldson. -
I've opened it. Very basic packaging. No mastering information. Very good sound. . .or as good as the recording is likely to sound.
-
One great thing about moving from Texas back to Ohio six years ago is that Mosaic material arrives much much quicker.
-
"Charles Tolliver All-Stars" cd 2019, Strata East (via Mosaic Records). Sounds great, no mastering credit.

Thad Jones "The Magnificent" Blue Note Rudy Van Gelder lp facsimile cd Japan

I haven't removed the cellophane yet, but it seems very basic as far as the cover and back, in a jewel case. I doubt you will be impressed.
-
Right, they were paired together on a US Blue Note cd. I really like those early years of Blue Note.
-
Ben Webster "Valentine's Day 1964 Live!" DOT Time cd. With David Friedman, Richard Davis and Grady Tate. Sound is okay, performance is killer.
-
I didn't get a tracking number, a week ago I got a message that my order had been turned over to their shipping outfit. Mine arrived today, along with he Ben Webster on Dot Time.

Astrud Gilberto "Now" 24/96 side of Dual Disc
-
Another wonderful release from Adventure Music. Excellent sound. Echoes of Jarrett Impulse! and early Weather Report as if recorded on ECM. "Fronteiras Imaginarias" Antonio Arnedo, Benjamin Tabukin, Joao Taubkin, Sergio Reze

I got the five SHM-CDs in from cd.japan and the two I have listened to sound EXCELLENT. Very nice printing on the LP facsimile covers, and my one quibble would be that the cover material could be denser and there not be tabs folded across the back.

"Introducing the Kenny Drew Trio" Blue Note, Japan UHQCD. Sounds fantastic. Great playing. Followed by The Don Rendell/Ian Carr Quintet "Phase III" Japanese mini-lp facsimile SHM-CD
-
Yes, my typing error.

I just went through the upcoming list on cdjapan. Kenny Burrell's "Introducing Kenny Burrell" is listed as "Remastered" in the track listing. McCoy Tyner's "Tender Moments" has one track that says "1987 - Remaster" and three that say "Digitall Remastered" and two with no indication. Bobby Hutcherson's "Total Eclipse" has one track that says "1968 Version" whatever that means. All the others either don't have any extra notation on the track listings or don't have track listings. I don't know what to make of that but I suspect the majority of these if not all of them will feature older masterings.

In at least one case they do note this on cdjapan.co.jp . . . for example "Components"

I actually see it as a deliberate attention to stifle the creative flowering of the music and bring attention back to what the labels may have seen as more marketable music. By then the progressive aspects of jazz of the sixties was now to conservative listeners and perhaps many A&R people the outer edge, they didn't want to market music that went further, and musicians were going further. This didn't stop the music from evolving but it did impact the economics of musicians wishing to be even more forward moving. In a way this didn't/doesn't upset me that much as I too find that jazz up to the New Thing is my cup of tea, and further fusions and developments don't necessarily attract me. Anyway as far as the Marsalises go I like some of their music, I won't lie, and I just don't read what they say, which is designed to get them attention I'd rather not give them, and much of what they say I just don't agree with and there is so much I don't agree with in this world of ours that I limit my exposure if I can.

Adventure Music Piano Masters Series Vol.1, Benjamin Taubkin Beautiful disc.
-
I think they used a lot of Grundman transfers in the 75th Anniversary SHM-CD if the whole series wasn't Grundman's archival transfers. These latest series seem to be deliberate reissues of previous issues however, perhaps that's a reaction to the local market feedback.

Best Book on Bix
jazzbo replied to Face of the Bass's topic in Jazz In Print - Periodicals, Books, Newspapers, etc...
Well, that's too bad. I pre-ordered it at the recommendation of the biggest Bix fan I knew at the time, and think I paid 45 dollars then! Keep an eye out, it's worth finding at a great price. The best is sometimes costly. . . .
