  1. It has been out on cd from Japan.
  2. All the Jamal records I have are far from quiet and quiet surfaces are what this music needs. The Mosaic set sounds fantastic.
  3. Dan, Zev was very recently promoted to President of Resonance Reconds, I don't believe he is leaving but is expanding his involvement to other ventures as well.
  4. Interesting news from Zev Feldman who has been producing releases for Resonance Records: THE JAZZ DETECTIVE GOES TO BALTIMORE! I had the pleasure Monday of interviewing and receiving some newly found tapes from my good friend, and original board member of The Left Bank Jazz Society, John Fowler. Over the next two years and beyond you’re going to see a stream of previously unissued LBJS recordings from a plethora of jazz greats come out, officially with clearances. The first is Etta Jones “A Soulful Sunday: Live at the Left Bank” (1972) featuring Cedar Walton, Sam Jones and Billy Higgins, due out this November on Reel To Real, my new venture with jazz amigo Cory Weeds. The Left Bank Jazz Society captured the spirit and community of the jazz scene from Baltimore from the early 1960’s thru the 1990’s. We’re going to document even further the great accomplishments of the LBJS. Maryland and this amazing organization left a profound mark on Jazz. I want to thank Mr. Fowler for putting his trust in me. More exciting news to come. All the way from Baltimore!
  5. The one thing I dislike about the recordings of this "era"--often the bass drum is way away from the rest of the kit. Bugs me.
  6. I think I like every Rouse leader and co-leader date I've heard. . . . But. . . I love Rouse with Monk. For me a great combination. Especially with Frankie Dunlop in the drum chair.
  7. That was one reason I thought of him too.
  8. As there seems to be someone else injecting his voice and perhaps his ideas into the mix on the untitled tune. . . I'll entertain the notion if it may be a Cal Massey tune. . . (so far I only have the single disc version, but Porter mentions "someone else" in his opinion not a band member ((and I presume not Thiel?)) audible on the alternates.)
  9. I'm in. I don't have a copy of the middle album, but do enjoy the first and last.
  10. Kamasi Washington "Heaven and Earth." I'm actually listening to the hidden third disc. "Limbo"?
  11. And don't forget there's a mystery third disc in the center panel of the gatefold cover, it needs to be liberated by cutting the top of the paper divider. I got mine in, freed that disc, will do some listening hopefully later today--my deck is in the process of being rebuilt so maybe not. (Sawing and pounding about ten feet from my system).
  12. On another board comments indicate it seems to be similar to "The Epic" in both the music and the mastering.
  13. I went for that Japanese version too. But I ordered the US single one so I can have that on release day, and I can give it to my brother (who is also a Coltrane fanatic but with two girls under ten doesn't get to buy many discs) later.
  14. I knew about the Woody but not the Dex. Thanks.
  15. It's material from the session, without the reverb. It's I think the same as has been out before on a single disc. Worth getting, definintely.
  16. I think you'll enjoy the set. I like it more the more I revisit it. There's excellent Hal Galper there and the sound is quite good throughout the set.
  17. I'm not sure it's that simple any longer. Seems Warner owns Roost now. EMI was divvied up among a few corporations.
  18. Jim, there's some really cool pictures. And Allen: the Basie stuff is dynamite.
  19. Most of the difference is the Roost material I'm sure. Great music in whatever format!
  20. Thanks to Jim Rowan I have a taped sequence of her being interviewed in Rio on the Merv Griffin show. Merv also interviews Jobim and Dori Caymmi in Jobim's home studio. Incredible tv.
  21. Might be mono as that seems to be what John took home from the studio. I'm in.
  22. It's apparently a varied experience. . . I ordered my set on the 25th of May and yesterday got a tracking number and the set will be here tomorrow. Never got a shipping notice or a "your set is ready to ship." Was worried about that until I got the tracking number yesterday. Looking forward to receiving it.
  23. It has to be a world play for "oil slick" and the slang meaning of slick. Maybe worthy of a chuckle?
  24. LP: I rank that second disc very high, it's really an amazing performance. MJ: I've heard several versions of the '75 from collector's circles. . . none sound better than the Sony version in this set.
