I've only had time so far to play Sweetnighter. Sounds 'f'in' great. Not yet compared it to other recent masterings.

No, though I have a number of the other early Blue Note releases from Japan during this time frame. And I'd love to hear current masterings of the material.

There is no booklet here, no liner notes at all. All disc are in sealed jewel cases and the booklet is just one folded cover with discographic info inside. I've opened a few, I assume they are all this way. So far I have found no engineering or mastering information. I won't be able to do further opening or listening til tomorrow.

Keep an eye on ebay. . . I recently got the 24 bit TOCJ release of this (non RVG) sealed for 13 dollars and free shipping. Sounds good and priced right. It may show up again, some titles in this series of TOCJ releases have been on ebay lately between 10 and 18 dollars total, sealed.

I will say that the sound of these releases has generally improved this decade, though I still prefer the sound of earlier cds from other releases when I can compare (for example I think the Scott material sounds much better from Japan). I've been enjoying the two Jeri Southern boxes, which are very well collated and annotated and sound very good. They include single releases that are not readily available anywhere else digitally. . . a good thing. Southern has become a real favorite of mine over the years.

Every time I hear that tune now I hear "Three Blind Mice" as I heard that a few decades ago as the "basis" of this song and now I can't unhear it!

I don't believe either has been on cd before. I haven't heard any of the Yellins on Mainstream. . .may have to fix that.

I ordered it. My order says both that it is arriving today, and that it is preparing for shipment. There's been some delay but I expect it will be released just as originally planned soon.

I'm in the same boat, I like it all but I think I prefer Miroslav to Jaco, those albums with Miroslav keep reeling me in more than the later ones do. . . . What a band. Weather Report and the Pretenders were the two bands that I saw the most times in my life. Great shows.

Probably due to a pricing error I got this set from amazon.co.uk for less than a dollar a disc postpaid. Now listening to disc 1.
