  1. My favorite Candido date is Beautiful. . . it just captures me.
  2. RIP Steve. Kevin, I'll just say one thing: in this instance "takes one to know one" is very appropriate.
  3. I bet that was exciting. She's really something. I first encountered her on the "Lost on the River: the New Basement Tapes" material and have been a fan of hers ever since. She's an amazing woman.
  4. I think I've fallen in love with this woman. It's okay. . .can't act upon it in any other way than listening! What a singer, and what a musician, and what an intelligent woman.
  5. I confess I enjoy this one a lot more the more I spin it and more than I thought I ever would. I'm not really a country fan, but I love the arrangement and instrumentation on this one. My wife IS a country fan. . . but she doesn't like this one. Go figure. Excellent sound on this one too. This "Jack Frost," the producer, whoever he is , knows his stuff Next Friday "Triplicate" is released, three cds/LPS of covers. . . . I'm in.
  6. Enjoying my second listen to this new cd release. I notice the Plangent Process was used with this release. I hear a very resonant piano sound and no "tape" fluctuation or speed issues which I've found to be benefits on other discs I have that have been mastered with this process (Errol Garner, Grateful Dead). Not audiophile studio sound, but any collector of Bill Evans material of this vintage will be quite happy with the sound. And some really nice playing here.

    Bob Dylan corner

I used to be that way. But now I think Modern Times, Together Through Life and Tempest are awesome. And I've enjoyed the previous two standards albums (Dylan does pretty darned well, and the band and arrangements are excellent).
  8. http://www.concordmusicgroup.com/albums/on-a-monday-evening/ Just released today. Not stellar sound, but good sound and great performances. That color coordination can be very important!
  9. It would likely be a worthwhile investment imo. Well mastered SACDs can outshine the best Redbook. My SACD (and Redbook) listening took a leap forward when I bought my latest PS Audio transport as it handles SACD discs now . . . but I have several others as well and I would say as you have a nice library already it's worth a try. If there is a place you can try for a few days it would be a nice experiment.
  10. If I were comparing just the Redbook layers I'm not sure what I'd choose, they're both really good. But the SACD layer seals the deal for the MOFI for me, it's a must have. I'm glad to have both. . . and several other versions. Anyway, these sort of things are very subjective. The system is really liking the Dutch Jazz Orchestra disc today. "Basin Street" was really good. I'm able to crank and no glare.
  11. I really like that one, though I'm not sure it tops the Mobile Fidelity SACD on my system. Love them both. Right now Disc 5 Slightly slick sound, and music. Nice though for a sunny spring day.
  12. From the Lush Life box set.
  13. Was just listening to some Teddy Wilson last night. I love the Mosaic sets from this period, I'll be looking forward to this one.
  14. The Mobile Fidelity SACD
  15. Looks cool. Thanks for the headsup.
  16. Incredible sound. Awesome music.
  17. Listening to this excellent date, though not in the edition pictured, in the new Jazz In Paris release edition. Seems to be the non-RVG Blue Note release tweaked a bit in the mastering. Love Bud and Kenny with Dex! I confess I never noticed the difference in the lyrics. . . . Interesting that both "Watch the River Flow" and "When I Paint my Masterpiece," recorded at the same session, are about "writer's block". . . .
  18. Today's Dylan break: Greatest Hits Vol.2, the SACD version mastered by Steve Hoffman.I've always loved the tunes with Happy Traum that were never released before this issue, and the track that was only a single side, "Watchin' the River Flow" and the outtake from that session that had never been issued, "When I Paint My Masterpiece." That's the reason I bought the album when it was a new release, and they still hold up really well.
  19. I read elsewhere today (can't find where so far) that just snippets were used in the film; this is going to greatly increase the music available. I'm ready!
  20. Listening to my old LP. . .the "Lonely Fire" side. Just enough age and surface noise to make me know it's my old LP but sounds SO good. So much better than the cds.

  22. Yes. Listening to Soul Jazz right now.

  24. Actually they are now not digipaks, but really slim gatefold paper sleeves with the cd tightly tucked into the back piece.
