  1. Continuing on my journey through my LP facsimile Miles Davis reissues from Sony. This one is a 20 Bit SBM mastering of the original mix. Sounds fantastic.
  2. Some of my favorite music (Miles Davis' Bitches Brew) re-imagined. Great sound too.
  3. Decided to play this birthday boy's first Blue Note date as a leader, and it also scratches an itch to hear some Dexter Gordon! The SHM-CD
  4. Yes, I remember hearing that when that set first came out and thinking "Wow, go figure." I can understand that choice more clearly now. I snoozed on this one too long. Had I known that Gary Bartz played on one third of this I'd have bought it sooner! Really nice, with Charles Ables (Horn's longtime bassist) playing some very nice guitar on some of these tunes.
  5. The 75th Anniversary SHM-CD. I realize I have a lot of digital copies of Blue Train! The enhanced US cd. The Japanese RVG edition. The Classics Records DAD. The High Fidelity Pure Audio Blu-ray Audio. And they all sound good if a bit different. In my current system as it sits (well I guess my speakers stand!) The Blu-ray and this one sound really really good and will probably get the most play. This used to be one of my LEAST favorite Coltrane albums. Over the decades I've liked it more and more and see why it is so "revered." Today it is sounding great as the first spin of the day.
  6. The four cds are a digital version of the six LP set that CBS France put out. I have the LPs and the cds but would buy a Mosaic set in a heartbeat with additional material! Great stuff! I'd also buy an OKEH set, would love to see one.
  7. Gosh it was so good to have a new Better Call Saul episode to watch!
  8. Right now, continuing my exploration of the recordings of Lafayette Gilchrist. This is a trio recording, He really can play, and he writes neat tunes as well.
  9. Back to this one. Enjoying it.
  10. I've a couple of weeks to wait I guess. Bur lots to listen to.

I've gone through the box. I enjoy the solo material most, though there are some outstanding band tracks as well. This week I've listened through the Triplicate discs three times. I really like them.
  12. Listening on Oppo PM-1 headphones via the Decware Taboo Mk III amp as my wife and dachshund sleep. This is an excellent sonic combo! Recent Japanese reissue. . . excellent sound.
  13. Darn. My Jazz Messengers package was for some reason returned (local mail is weird here) and so I don't have this one yet. But glad to hear the sound is even better!
  14. Yes I agree, and I've been listening to KOB more often as well. Some really nice sounding stereo and mono versions to listen to, and the music has never become stale.
  15. Another great sounding Turrentine SHM-CD Followed by Something very different
  16. All over the map listening today. Started off with Ory! Made a left turn to this Blu-Spec CD2 (these Dylan Blu-Spec CD2s sound fantastic!) Now onto this wonderful SHM-CD.
  17. Totally understand this and can relate to that experience with Abbey Road. I was in a British-modeled boarding school in M'Babane at the time (Waterford-Kamhlaba School--probably the happiest years of my life and still one of the best schools on the planet) and we knew that Abbey Road was coming out and was going to be broadcast in its entirety over the radio either from BBC or Radio Lorenzo Marques, I can't remember which clearly. Of course this would have been after lights out in our dorm/barracks but we were brave and we had the radio on in the dark as it played and hoped for the best, that we would not be caught. Midway through our fears came alive as one of the Prefect older students came in and busted us red-eared. To our relief he just pulled a chair from another room and sat down and listened, never said a word, and left when the broadcast ended and we switched the radio off. Still, though Abbey Road is a great album. . . Sgt. Pepper's and The White Album have the musical goods for me. I can enjoy Beatles . . . any of the albums. . . but I'm not a huge fan (mainly I dislike Paul!) But I do need those two, and the recent stereo and mono reissues are very well done.
  18. I grew up with a mono copy that my Dad brought me back from the States to Swaziland, so it's the stereo that gets my "WTF" attention. This and the White Album are my favorite Beatles and I could do without the rest if I had this. I'll probably pick up the two cd release.
  19. Drove to my Dad's this rainy gray day and on the way listened to the three Lafayette Gilchrist cds I have: I really like these. Gilchrist reminded me right off the bat of Thelonious Monk in his approach to composition and arrangement and in some ways his piano playing. But there's elements that remind me of Mingus passion here in the arranging and playing of the horns, and also of Archie Shepp "New Thing" drama and presentation, with a dollop of grease and a side order of a tiny spoonful of creamy corn. Really digging these. . .need to get more.
  20. The excellent Warner Japan cd of this Roulette album. I also have a nice vinyl copy. I didn't think I would want this album which was not included in the Mosaic box set. But when I found the LP and took a chance I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it then, and still enjoy it now.
  21. Digesting and enjoying "Triplicate," the new Dylan release.
  22. The Excellent sounding Warner Japan cd.
