The Amsterdam material sounds better than the French cds I have of this concert, and I'm confident that everything here sounds just as good as it could in Redbook. I think any Mingus nut would just revel in this set.
-
Listening to the new Mingus set (which I think is or will be one of the fast-selling sets*) makes me wish for a set with more of the European 1964 concerts with audio attention by Malcolm Addey. I'm not sure what would be involved in getting these into a set via Sue Mingus, but I'd love love to see them. *I say this because I pre-ordered the first day you could online and received set #849.

I like the colors ok, but...that photo is from, when, 1959? That cover is not from 1959,

Indeed. I find over a half a dozen unissued sessions that may be really interested in this discography: http://www.scribd.com/doc/94651753/Lee-Konitz-Discography

Intersting. Thanks Hans.

Great price. In the USA I'd worry that the DVD would not be compatible however.
-
I pre-ordered yesterday. Going to be an amazing release I believe.
-
Sold to Jeff. Thanks!

Thanks for releasing the Fisher. I think the remastering is amazing on that release, let alone the music. I'm betting you sell each and every one.

Somehow I managed to order this DVD set as well as the Blu-ray version, and only need the Blu-ray. Sealed DVD set, Season 5, 22 dollars including postage within the continental USA. IF interested, please email lonjazz@yahoo.com

Got mine today. The sound on the Town Hall Concert surprised me; the arco bass just sounds amazing. No Mingus fan will be disappointed with this set. Mine is #849. I pre-ordered the minute I could.

This two lp set just sounds phenomenal. (And I love the music). I have the material on French CBS cds, but they just will never sound this great.
-
Thanks Brooks. More importantly, they sound great!

'87 or '88 was when I first started buying cds and my first player (a Pioneer, didn't sound that great). I started with Miles Davis cds and then moved on to Blue Note, it amazed me that there were all these Blue Note cds coming out of material I had heard or read about but never was able to get into a player. Now it's full circle for me, I have an awesome digital playback system and I'm falling in love with lps again.

Well, I have all the stuff on cd so I get the lps just for a taste of vinyl goodness, and that works out just fine for me. Getting a new phono preamp in a week or so that I think will make vinyl sound even better (tubed phono preamp for the first time since my dad's Dynaco system when I was a wee lad, looking forward to it, a Decware ZP3).

Wow, where did you find that on LP?!?!?! I didn't, wrong thread, recently found a sealed cd copy at a good price. Now, this two lp set, I like the sound of Roulette vinyl.

I know quite a lot about cancer, enough to know how much you've gone through. Hope you have gone through all you ever will. Thanks for letting us know you're well right now and making an appearance. Don't stay away forever.

You might be surprised how wonderful early recordings can sound. I use two pairs of speakers designed and built by Steve Deckert and Bob Zigler of Decware in my systems. These incorporate a radial dispersion driver and ribbon tweeters that really bring out the best in the recordings. I find that the dispersion pattern creates a very natural sound and adds a perceived body to recordings that need heft. I also am a big fan of Decware amplifiers and as I am using a moderately large space their Torii Mk III amplifier is the choice for my main system. These speakers are hand-built in America with lifetime warranties to the original owner. An excellent company making wonderful products. Sopranos Season 2. Finally getting around to Sopranos. I'd like it better if it weren't about mobsters. Mafia stuff bores me.
-
I agree, I didn't think I'd like it but I do.

Still enjoying the setup Shawn did on my '59 Thin Skin Reissue. And I've been playing this red bad boy quite a bit lately, mahogany body makes a cool Strat sound, and I like the S1 switching.
