  1. Many many happy returns!
  2. Could it be material from: 670 195 Paul Barbarin / George Lewis And His Ragtime Band* Jazz From New Orleans SLP 103 George Lewis (2) A Musical Tour Of New Orleans (LP) Or this may be what's on the Sounds Of New Orleans Volume. SLP 128 Bunk Johnson's Band With George Lewis (2) 1944 (LP) SLP 4022 George Lewis (2) In Concert (LP, Album, RE) Is this Hangover material?
  3. King Jazz won't be anything new. The only Strayhorn I remember is this one, which was not originally Storyville material (and I love the stuff): http://www.allmusic.com/album/release/piano-passion-mr0000348734 There were Lewis lps on Storyville: http://www.discogs.com/label/Storyville
  4. I doubt we'll see it in December. Maybe. Will be a good set.
  5. Started Mad Men Season 5 on Blu-ray. One of the best seasons, loved it on broadcast. Just finished tonight's Sons of Anarchy. This season is amped up!
  6. Good points Cliff. Early on I wanted to have all the Monk and Mingus possible. I've got a large portion of what's available, official and unofficial from these two artists, and I'm still learning from the recordings, definitely still enjoying them. I'll confess that this is in a large part a "collecting" thing, but I very much enjoy the listening. The collecting part has a diminishing control on my time and money, thank goodness, but it's still strong.
  7. Many happy happy returns Greg!!
  8. Joel, from an informative review on amazon.com by Jean-Marie Juif: But to complete this CD, we now can listen to 35 more minutes of unissued music by Bird.Tracks 9 to 14 come from other concerts in Washington: tracks 9 to 12 were recorded at the Howard Theater on March 8,1953, with a trio composed of Jack Holliday,Franklin Skeete and Max Roach, while tracks 13 and 14 were taped at the same place,October 18,1952,with among others,Don Lamond,Zoot Sims,Charlie Byrd,Kay Winding and Earl Swope.Bird's playing is absolutely crazy on the March 1953 date.
  9. I wouldn't hesitate.
  10. The tune "Bridges" by Nascimento performed by Monday Michiru with vocal assistance by Ed Motta on "Soulception." The whole album is a wonderful listen, but that one performance really gets me, and especially for some reason this week. I love Monday, and I love Ed. Great singers (and writers).
  11. I still don't see why Columbia/Sony and the estate haven't released these 'fifties and early 'sixties live recordings, what a missed opportunity.
  12. Mono. One of the very first lps I've ever owned, a gift from one of the Peace Corps volunteers my father directed in Swaziland, and a killer lp.
  13. Wild new season ahead!
  14. I had a friend in the 'seventies with one like that, worked great but it was a dry cleaner, and will keep clean record clean, won't do a lot for dirty records that really need a wet cleaning. It's worthwhile to keep clean records clean and at the price it is a good deal.
  15. Contrabass violin.
  16. Happy Birthday Cris, and many happy returns! Tell us how it was!
  17. Many many more happy returns!
  18. Re-reading my Dad's second biography, a fascinating read about an important little-known American. On top of that, my Dad writes wonderful prose.
  19. Last night's "Raising Hope": Throw Maw Maw from the House, Part 2. Hilarious.
