  1. I'm enjoying it too, and am really surprised to see negative comments about the sound, it's quite good. The DVD is nice but not as well-shot as previous video of the band, i think they were unhappy with the shoot overall and so decided to just offer it to the diehards.
  2. I love Jack, but these never really did that much for me.
  3. Jimi was an obsessive musician driven to play and create, and for a good chunk of that time co-owned a studio that he could live in and party in and put down endless hours of music onto tape. That's why there's so much. It's not that they keep "discovering" it, it's out there and 99 percent in the hands of collectors and fans, they're just coming up with ways to market it and finding that there's still a market. I've collected everything I could of Jimi's with the help of other collectors and if you're a serious fan of his work it's almost all "worthwhile." To me the real "rub" is how much they'll tamper with the tapes. . . .
  4. Many happy happy returns!
  5. Episodes of the first season of The Hour. Nice.
  6. The mastering is rather flat and scrubbed but the worst part is that many are at the incorrect speed and pitch is off. When you're used to the later Columbia box set or the JSP or Fremeaux versions these just don't compare and many cuts don't sound right. Later discs in the box set sound better and are speed correct.
  7. I predict you'll listen to the Hot Fives in that box set once, and never again. . . .
  8. Don I hope it's a wonderful day, and many happy returns!
  9. Watched a few episodes of "Luther", Season 2 (on the tele).
  10. Got this 8 LP set as a gift and all I can reall say is . . .WOW.
  11. Jay, I have all of these and the sound is as good as it gets.
  12. Dude, is that a dead horse you guys are gathered around? I really need new glasses... Yeah, I was wondering. Looks like a dead boar to me, even more strange, right? Wonder what else there is in Lon's family album? In Swaziland there is a game preserve where they have some tame animals near the cottages you can rent, a rhino (!!!!), a gazelle, and Lady Jane the wart-hog. I think the place was pretty new when we were there in '68 or so, and this may have been the first Lady Jane, very muh alive, enjoying the attention she got from visitors, and a few snacks too. There's a Lady Jane there now, so I think there's a dynasty of them. One morning the rhino chased my brother Les around a bit. A little bit of exctiement. Here's another photo from that album, this is in front of our home in Ethiopia, '67 I think.
