  1. I don't care about covers. The music is great imo, still holds up. Right now, Mono
  2. I'm with you on Hines, amazing music, I've been listening to the five lp set "Father of Modern Jazz Piano" (three solo piano lps, and two quartet dates with Budd Johnson). Just such uplifting listening.
  3. I'm glad as well. Wish they would put these out on Blu-ray as well as DVD, but if wishes were horses the streets would be covered in dung. Just finished watching Sunday's "Breaking Bad." Better than the season opening episode for me. I'm interested to see where this goes from here. . . .
  4. I've had both the Fresh Sound and this new one. The new one is a distinct improvement.
  5. Glad you got it Larry. What a treasure trove!
  6. There's a newer edition released last year by EMI Japan. In my opinion that one sounds quite nice and it's a good session.
  7. Hope you have a great day Marcel! Many happy returns!
  8. Have a great one and many happy returns!
  9. Coming up this Thursday night (July 26) WD-41 (Dave Laczko, trumpet, and Willie Oteri, guitar) are hosting the evening of music at Kenny Dorham's Back Yard in Austin (11th St, right next to Victory Grill). They will have a set starting at 7:30 and then have other avant garde and jazz artists sitting in with them and performing sets. Should be hot. . . and fun.
  10. Last night's "Longmire."
  11. Okay, seems that many came with this cartridge: http://www.lpgear.com/product/ATC110E.html
  12. A Bob Porter production I don't have - indeed never heard of!!!! Interesting tracklist. Playing Jimmy Smith - House party - BN (Pathe Marconi) MG I have a copy of a tape of Keener playing Danny's dad's piano in the D'Imperio living room. Great player. Right now one of the two Quartet lps with Budd Johnson in this excellent five lp box set.
  13. Discount code "facebook10" brought the total (including shipping) down to $250. Happy birthday to me! Thanks, jazzbo. Congrats! It's a fun set to explore. There are some interesting versions of lps in here, such as the original mix on the Bitches Brew cds, the better sounding Japanese versions of Agharta and Panagea in comparison to the US releases, scattered throughout the sound may be better for a given album than on the common US cd release, the Isle of Wight cd, and there's the really cool collections of previously unreleased material on sets like Directions and Circle in the Round that dish up some of the extra stuff in the metal-spine box. I've enjoyed having it and I basically had it all before (even the dvd, but the dvd is a lot better than the sources I had!)
  14. Yes it does, really.
  15. I think the Complete Album Collection is worth it if you're new to collecting Miles on cd. It does have the complete Blackhawk material, and there are bonus tracks scattered in the set. Sure it does not have much of the extra material in the metal-spined sets, etc. but if this offers twenty or thirty albums you don't already have I think it's a really good deal. The set is for sale from popmarket.com for 270. Occasionally in the past it has been lower. Whether there will be lower prices frequently in the future. . . I just don't know really.
  16. The Legacy anniversary box set vinyl (original mix)
  17. Bought this right after his Antone's show in '86, from Chris.
  18. There is some excellent music in the Goodman Orchestra set. Still, if you're not really a BGO fan, I'd skip it. Some of the material is available on HEP cds also in very good sound.
  19. Record One, the All Stars
