Looks as if the Verve lp combined two Norgran 10"s, one trio, one with strings. I haven't heard them but the tracks from the trio Norgran were incorporated into a two cd set from Fresh Sounds in 2010: The Fresh Sound: The Norgran:

Regarding Rodney King Thread

To me it's all just conversations. Many of those go off into the air. Time is killed, entertainment was made, some facts were put out. Facts are often repeated over and over in conversations. I don't view this place as a collection of essays about jazz, or a discographic haven, or an encyclopedia of jazz etc. It's a watering hole, a meeting hall, a water cooler, a club. Duplications don't bother me, if you let them all be as they are I'd be fine. I wonder how many of us are on this side of the fence. All I'll say is thanks for all the work you do, but I personally don't want you to feel obligated to do it for my sake. And Hans, yes there's plenty of attitude on posters' part, but is it the moderator's job to sling it back? I see that a lot is all I'm saying. You can't win if you're a moderator I guess. Thanks for all you do. -
You might find some of them to be similar. But many high end players use high end transports. I know this from years of reading about them and some hands on experience. I've heard differences in dedicated cd players and dvd players that I relate to the transport with some reason. That's all I was saying above.

It's very easy to see who's a moderator - they have "Staff" or "Super Moderator" (Rolf) under their handle in the left-hand column of each of their posts and their "group" below that is "moderator", for everyone to see. There's nothing like that under my handle, so the conclusion is simple: I'm not a moderator. You don't have to be a rocket scientist or brain surgeon to understand that. Good grief... As for you "attitude" remark, well, I don't think it'd be wise to go into that. My last post: regarding the attitude: Larry wrote "Some search you did there." That's attitude. I've seen moderators bitching about what a pain in the butt duplicate threads bring/are. Why not just let them lie? How are they such a cancerous evil? People who search seem to do fine. People who don't search, don't search. -
I'm not sure that's entirely true even now about the laser assemblies, but I disagree about only the output stage mattering. Yes it does. But don't you hear differences in non-oversampling and oversampling DACs, different digital filters, etc.? I have. Headman I think the easy answer for you is: follow your plan of getting a hard drive player, see how that sounds with CDs, and if it's great and your Arcam fails, just keep using the hard drive player. If not. . . then look for another player.

How much effort is one supposed to put into searching before posting and it's not easy to discover who's a moderator an not in a simple search. Sorry, I just don't see it the same way Hans. And the moderators are coming back with attitude or introducing attitude. I don't really care either way and I'm NOT criticizing the moderators, I just see both sides here and want to get along. Bowing out of the thread. -

Everyone is so prickly. I don' see any "shit" on the walls. I saw a question, and a misconception that Hans closed the thread which isn't that odd as Hans used to be a prominent moderator. Too bad we can' all get along. -

The 40th anniversary. Sounds very close to my old Columbia, but so noise-free!

They're both more "out" than those they are releasing. I think that's the reason why.

The first Yusef Lateef release I knowingly bought, back in the 'seventies. (I bought a Bird lp on Charlie Parker Records that was actually a mislabeled Yusef Lateef on that label, and when I figured out what it was I bought this two lp reissue of Impulse material.) Still sounds great.

This album is generally not liked by mature Dylan fans, but I really like it, always have since it first came out. Sounds so much better on lp than on cd.

One of my favorite jazz albums.

I was thinking about this again reviewing the "Skipping CD Player" thread. There are several factors I think which are at play between cd players and dvd players and their cd playback, in my experience with both types of players playing CD in my home and system.. One is that the laser used for a CD and a DVD are I believe different lasers. The DVD player can read the cd disc, and not vice versa. But I think there's a difference when read and sent between a CD and DVD laser lens. DVD lasers impart a signature that is different in subtle ways from the CD laser lens. With the DVD lens I find there's a smoother sound, warmer perhaps by a bit. But I feel in comparison that the CD laser lens seems to have a subtle bit more detail and dynamics. This is my impression after a lot of comparisons and over time. I prefer CD playback through a dedicated CD player. Also different players use different DAC chips, filters, and of course power supplies for the digital circuits and for amplifying the analog signal coming out of the converter. Some use op amps, some discrete components, some vacuum tubes for the output stage. All these can have different sounds and signatures through the use of different components and capacitance size, etc. These design and parts differences probably account for the biggest differences in the sound of players. Other factors come into play as well, such as the rigidity of the chassis and frame, isolating the vibrations from the transport, from the outer environment, etc. There is, in my opinion, a lot more than "marketing hype" at play, though marketing hype certainly exists.

Alright, thanks. Not one of the post offices I frequent. I'm sure it will show up at the two nearest me soon (38th and Lamar, and 43rd and Speedway).

I've really enjoyed the series that Clunky mentions that includes the Cannonballs and many others that have not been released on cd before. They are a bit loud, but not so loud that I can't listen to them. These are probably the only way these titles are going to be on cd in the near future. Too bad. The US reissue program was great while it lasted.

They're possibly (probably?) self-adhesive.

I preordered. I love the first lp, and what I've heard of the Judson Hall recording, and assume I'll really like the remainder. And I've really enjoyed the sound of recent releases from this label.

Great news!

That one I found.

Good luck. No stamps sighted in these here parts yet.
