  1. Many many happy returns!
  2. This week I was tempted to jump back into the Europe '72 box set again but decided to listen to a series of discs compiled for me about five years ago by Dr. Orchid of great Pigpen performances and today I've been concentrating on versions of "Easy Wind." Just love that song and it inspired some great stretching out.
  3. I've got the Lambert, and some Eckoff. . . and I think I see what you mean. But I'm glad to have the music to listen to. There are so many things out of our control, what's available new, how "loud" the cds are, how the EQ is, how much and what kind of noise reduction. I try to listen through to the music, and I also admit to having some fun doing all kinds of things like changing digital filters, swapping tubes, moving speakers around, etc. When I don't have much control I try to be flexible. I'd prefer it if they wake up and realize that the sound is suffering from these practices. Could happen. Sometimes I get to have my druthers. Maybe that will happen again soon.
  4. I'm really enjoying the sonics on these earliest dates recorded for HMV. Wow if more jazz releases of this vintage sounded this great . . . .
  5. Allen, what releases have you heard that have had this form or noise reduction applied!?
  6. I can't share that opinion. I think the late novels are very good, if not "fun to read." And over the years my very favorite Dick has become the novels he failed to get published at the time, the hoped-for-mainstream novels, with "Mary and the Giant," "Confessions of a Crap Artist" and "The Man Whose Teeth were Al Exactly Alike" being my top three. I guess my years of studying Gnosticism, the mystery religions, the origins of Christianity and early Christianity has given me a context within which to read the Exegesis and appreciate it differently, because I've really been enjoying my forays into it. I hear that "The Man in the High Castle" will become a BBC TV mini-series, produced by Ridley Scott. I'm really looking forward to that.
  7. Most/probably all of the EMI stuff has been reissued on lp and cd. I've had much of it for 40 years. The previous RCA/BMG set had this stuff and smaller chunks have been on EMI cds. Thanks for the info Chuck.
  8. Both are excellent, I've been enjoying the Bernstein this year.
  9. I ordered this set from amazon.de for a total of 226 dollars, and it arrived in four days! Beautiful set. I'm listening to the very earliest material, from 1928 on and I find the restoration and mastering excellent. Notes in the booklet about sound: "This edition also boasts the finest sound quality ever bestowed on Arthur Rubinstein's complete recordings. The masters for the principal works in the collection come from the series of Living Stereo SACDs and Japanese XRCDs. All the other recordings are based on masters from the Rubinstein Collection of 1999, technically and sonically refurbished for this edition. In cases where the desired results could not be obtained, Sony Classical has gone back to the original analogue tapes." The set opens with 14 packed cds of the earliest material, recorded for HMV in London which would be the EMI recordings, correct? The notes say that they were all 78s and EPs and never reissued on LP. Great great music to savor the next year and beyond.
  10. The ZBOX has been sold and will be going to a good home. Thanks!
  11. I'll also include a 1 meter Monster Cable HDMI cable.
  12. I'm reducing the price to 325 til the new year. After that if it's not sold I'll put it back in the closet. Could come in handy one day.
  13. Probably cut and pasted from another set's description.
  14. Hey me either! Uh oh. . . that might mean you're not cool. . . .
  15. You just answered your own question!
  16. Got your email Jeff. Thanks!
  17. I'm up to date on all the Mosaic material, I'm just waiting for the Hawkins. On the other hand, there's no one in my life who would give me a Mosaic set! It's not the value, it's just they wouldn't know what to get me, wouldn't think to ask, would rather surprise me with something else.
  18. Many many happy returns!
  19. Brandenburg Gate: Revisited is still available, 4 dollars including postage to a US address.
  20. For sale, check or money order please. If interested, please email lonjazz@yahoo.com Near mint condition. 12 dollars including postage to a US address.
  21. I love that sound too. Really helps connect you.
  22. Glad you have a friend to watch it with. Hope she's pretty. Right now, watching the finale of this season of Sons of Anarchy again. Just love how they pull the rug out from underneath the RICO plotline in the first ten minutes.
  23. I have this on VHS from a Texas drummer and it sure is wonderful. I'm going to get this when the set is broken down into single discs. This and the Coltrane are on my want list.
  24. Breaking Bad is very good. I tried not to like it as it's quite a roller coaster ride, but I'm two seasons in so far. After a break it'll be time for season three, perhaps later next year. This year Sons of Anarchy has moved itself up the ladder of great shows, it was a real thrill ride this year. Going to be a great Blu-ray set when released.
