  1. I knew you would dig it Brooks. My biggest complaint is . . . I'd have preferred little to no editing, and that's not what we got.
  2. Finally got around to listening to this. Quite nice. Made me go and listen to the Don Lanphere-Fats Navarro material, which I really really like--reminded me of it.
  3. Many happy happy returns Reiner!
  4. I actually have 85 to 90 percent of this, but will get the set eventually any way. Just probably won't preorder it.
  5. i think this is an amazing sounding disc, all instruments sound great, but the cello and drums are very dynamic. The playing is also excellent. Never heard this material before, and should have.
  6. Yes. Even near the beginning. Parts of the Hodes and Bechet sets overlapped I believe. Lots of great music. I was amazed. . . at how much of this, most of this, I already have.
  7. Many many happy returns John!
  8. "Up All Night." I love Maya Rudolph. And this episode. . . an all male cross-dressing Bangles cover band. . .named The Dangles.
  9. I watched every episode broadcast of Firefly with relish. The weird thing was they broadcast a few out of order, and I don't believe they broadcast them all! I have the set on Blu=Ray (after having it on DVD) and need to watch it again. Right now I'm watching Bored to Death, Season Two, it's finally out on DVD and Blu-Ray (I have the latter). I love this show.
  10. Many many happy returns!
  11. Personally I think they're going to go back to a series of more complete shows, a la Dick's Picks. But I could be wrong. Don't want them to only offer downloads. Maybe they could do a "Mr. Charlie's Choice" series. . . .
  12. Re-watched three episodes of "Egypt Unwrapped" that were broadcast this weekend. Looking forward to tonight's "Sons of Anarchy". . . .
  13. The sound is amazing on this release, punchy and clear and warm. I'm still digesting the music but the sound helps in every way. Great job.
  14. Me either. You can turn the variatone on but it doesn't hide much.
  15. Maybe I had the import then. I bought a lot of Japanese lps of Miles, Santana, Weather Report et al from a record store in Cleveland, in the Coventry area.
  16. Danny has not been here since he was summarily banished many moons ago.
  17. Well, bear in mind that this is just the original two lp version, not the expanded two cd version that was released in the mid-nineties. I have to have both, as the material not released until the two cd set is something I want to have.
  18. I sold my lps when I bought the cd set years ago. My lps were mono, and I don't think they were imported. . . but can't remember precisely. This cd version is mono. Sounds really good.
  19. I know. I know. Sigh.
  20. Thanks, that's good to know. Amazon.com should correct their sound clip for this cd because track 2 of disc 1 is identified as "Dear Lord/Transition" but the sound clip is "Welcome". UH OH. I was wrong, there's a major boo-boo here. Welcome IS the second tune on Transition. That's awful. Just awful supervision. I hope they come up with a replacement disc. PDQ. REALLY disappointing. Prison is a drag.
  21. Yes, it includes a studio session from 1963 and one from 1965 and the 1963 Newport appearance. I've always liked the cover. http://www.discogs.com/John-Coltrane-The-Mastery-Of-John-Coltrane-Vol-II-To-The-Beat-Of-A-Different-Drum/release/935048
  22. Live in Seattle is definitely improved. I haven't spun Concert in Japan yet and done the comparison. Dynamics are a bit improved on Seattle, the most improved is the clarity and tonal balance imo. Edit to add: Did a few comparisons. The Seattle is most improved of all the titles in my opinion. Concert in Japan is improved as well, there seems more body to the instruments. It's hard to describe the overall improvements, I'd say that the new discs are a bit more forward, but instrumental images are more solidly presented. In most the bass is improved, seeming to have more presence and depth.
  23. This year we had I think 190 days 90 degrees and over, and more than 70 consecutive 100 degree plus days. Finally last night and this morning we're getting rain! The first rain since June 20! It's wonderful.
  24. Well, the intent of this series is to recreate the lps themselves. So yes, there is more material on both of those releases. I have experience with these albums as lps before the cds and as a result I enjoy listening to them in lp format. I'll liklely listen to these versions more often from here on out. That's because the sonic improvement is imo not subtle over the earlier cds.
