  1. 1 - Indeed I have the Dolphy box, and that will likely end up being what I have when I go to the grave. 2 - But I like to whine at Concord, it's therapeutic for me and they are deserving targets of the whining. 3 - As far as the Japanese CD's, I'm way in the other half there, never buy the things if the music is available otherwise. 4 - Good for my budget if all we see is "sure fire" reissues. If there isn't sufficient value added, I'm not buying them. I managed to pass on all three of the 2008 Kind of Blue packages. I totally understand your position. That was mine not too long ago. It's only disposable income, now, not forever, that has allowed me to play around this way. I admit I should have had a smiley there about the whining and the whole post. It was just an ommission in a hurry. I just don't expect Concord or the others to be any different than they are doing. Cuscuna thinks the same way to an extent. There are titles that rightly or wrongly (and it's likely both, right?) are going to sell consistently better than others, over and over. Their business model is to keep putting these out again for a new crop of buyers and some old. In my opinion Concord is doing a good job with the RVG series in that sonically they're my cup of tea and all the releases have been ones I've been tempted to buy and I've bought them. Then the collector's thing kicks in and I've had the money and decided to get the whole series and last year bought all the ones I hadn't already. And I've exposed a few new persons to these classic titles by passing along my old copies and have had a few nice jazz conversations as a result. It's not ideal. I'd probably like Concord, and EMI and Sony and others to have a very different reissue program than they do. I'd be very surprised to see a change though. . . I think iike it or not the next big change in reissues may very well be. . . downloads of material not on cd currently. Not what I want but it won't surprise me to see that develop.
  2. Huh, you're more humid in Plano. Sorry. Summer's here and there's probably going to be dancing in the street.
  3. I'm at sea level. It's pretty humid.
  4. Ah you'e quite entertaining dude! Okay, I guess I'll just continue on my pompous and pretentious way and you can continue on whatever you want to describe your hostile way, trying to dictate how others post. I'll just hug the hallway when you pass by.
  5. Gee, I see you're winning personality is just busting all over again now. Yes, you ARE the new Allen! It sounded like whining to me dude, what can I say. Aceept that that's how it comes off to some. And frankly it wasn't your piggybacking "Yup me too" I was referring to. I know I buy a lot and I know I support the new reissues . . . I have a feeling that may help theml keep coming our way. I have the money and the time, I'm retired with about three times my former annual salary in the bank. I've been upgrading my stereo and really enjoying my discs and new upgrades (SACD really shines, I wish there were more SACDs. . . ) I don't mind if you decide to make me the next target of your little hostility campaign, but it sure looks like pretty silly behavior. Grow up a little and quitshoving in the hallways. With these new two cds you get three Prestige lps as they were released. That's pretty okay by me, seems good value. By the way, I listened to Vol. 2 RVG and compared it to the box set version and the RVG sounds really really good. All the Dolphy RVGs sound better to me than the box set versions, so if they keep coming I can hold onto the RVGs and get rid of the box set. I find that interteresting and something to look forward to.

    Stan Getz

The Stockholm one. . . well it's worth getting, but the sound is a bit (just a bit disappointing) and there's better Getz playing out there. But. . .I got it, and I'm keeping it.
  7. Updated with Miles K2s.
  8. Promo copies of this set actually were sent out. . . and they're out there. It's not a bad way to get the Warner Bros. stuff but ultimately we didn't miss much.
  9. Though I was fond of them before, this year I became a Cowboy Junkies completist and man oh man am I enjoying them. This purchase from last year was the one that put me over the edge and made me go back and fill in big gaps: I love the guitar sounds in this band, among other things such as the song-writing, vocals and the way they arrange things, and the often slow soulfulness.
  10. WB3, this is an even better deal! And you're going to love this set. More and more this is my favorite late period Evans.
  11. The live stuff is what does it for me. . . . I've been listening to the Montreux box a bit lately after a long time away from it and some of these shows were excellent.
  12. I got a shipping notice on the two (gift) copies I ordered.
  13. Many many more happy ones!
  14. True Blood on DVD. It's prety awful. . . but in a fun way.
  15. Yes I'm listening to a Blu-Ray through it right now, beautiful rich arco basses. This is teh best amp I've had.
  16. Whine whine whine. If these were put out by the Japanese it would be three cds like this and half of you would pay big dollars for them. I jsut got Vol. 2 in and will listen to it this weekend. The RVG series obviusly makes money, that's why these are done. . . In the situationa now and ahead we're going to see more and more "sure fire" relases, or what Concord or EMI or Verve thinks are sure fire things, and less and less "risky" releases. I like the RVGs and I get them, I'd rather have these than a box with Tarantino mastering. Don't get them if these bother you. Get the Dolphy box and you'll have it all in one place. Sounds pretty good there too.
  17. 1) that's interesting, I doubt there's any difference sonically between them, but I've no immediate knowledge. 2) yes, indeed, that is in my opinion the set to get.
  18. Wow. I got a great offer in March: the chance to buy an amp I've wanted ever since it's introduction and ever since I read the designer's notes, at about 60% of the cost of one new. In fact this amp is serial number "00"--made for the designer's partner who helps design and constructs the company's excellent speakers. The designer went through this amp and brought it up to the current production specifications and construction, thus offering me a lifetime warranty. After a long wait it's now in my system this week and I'm just absolutely floored. It has all the features of the company's amps and yet is also without the limitations of its smaller siblings. It has an easy breathing power within its core, ready to be put to use just like that. It has a precision that is remarkable and attention-grabbing. And yet it can delicately cradle the gentlest most sensitive hint of sound or texture and place it protectively just where it should be. I'm amazed and so very happy. This amp will be the heartbeat and foundation, this is the amp that brings out everything in my stystem that I want to hear. The icing on the cake for me is the treble cut adjustment pots, a little known secret available for Decware amps. . . . They have allowed me to tailor the sound to recordings and the room without degrading the sound quality in any way. For anyone with a large collection of recordings and who doesn't only listen to the really good ones, this is a great feature, almost indispensable to me now. (I had it incoporated into my previous amplifier and it's really made a difference in my listening.) If anyone is considering an amplfier of real quality, I invite them to consider this one. Here's the designer's notes: http://www.decware.com/paper68.htm Here's the product page: http://www.decware.com/newsite/TORII.htm This one is not going anywhere!
  19. My first Mosaic was the Blakey set, saw the ad in Downbeat (I think?) when it was first released. That was the one that let the flood gates loose. I wish I'd known of Mosaic earlier, but if I didn't manage to get some of those earlier sets at least I've gotten the music in one form or another thanks to Blue Note US and Japan. Due to an uprecedented (for me) financial situation that I've taken advantage of, I have all the sets in print and many out of print. It's really an odd situation I've had this year to sit back and wait for them to release another!
  20. Got this from another board (AAJ): Best Buy is selling the set for 13.99. Seems that it's still legit for now. Go for it. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?sk...&id=1962921 I don't believe that they ship to Europe.
  21. Wow, to have it all under one cover, consistent mastering etc. . . . If I can afford this at the time I may go for it.
  22. Whew! My copy from yourmusic is correct. John (JET): it sounds the same as my other copy to me.
  23. According to RVG at one point his favorite recording session.
  24. Seemed to have a Lateefan "Part of the Search" feel to part of it. 'Salright. Man could PLAY.
