Dylan has a new album out soon, "Together through Life"
jazzbo replied to jazzbo's topic in New Releases
Is that what Dylan is all about? I don't personally think Dylan is all about "lyrics" at all for some time, since the eighties maybe before. And I don't think Dylan thinks he's all about lyrics either, that's just my impression of what I've read and seen him say. . . . He knows that the breath that flowed in the early and mid-sixities stopped flowing and he's had to cope wiht a different "instrument." For me Dylan in this century has been about guitar boogie roots music done by a guy whose roots run really deep and whose love for the music is heart-felt. And when it's done by a working band, as I think it has been on this new album, it has a depth and a feel that I really really enjoy. -
Sure I'd love to see an RVG. I don't think we will for a while. It's interesting that this has been in print since 1990. It must sell enough to be kept in stock. . . they're likely to not mess with that for now. I wonder why Blues Walk sells that much though, just curious. It's a solid album.

Agreed. The store I bought mine at has a strict "no returns" policy. Even if I do still have my receipt, they're not going to take it back. And really, why should they? It wasn't their mistake. Blue Note should be fixing this directly, not dumping the responsibility on the stores or the buyers who purchased the defective CDs in good faith. If that's really their only response, then it's very poor customer service. I agree, this is not a great solution. It's not the way this was handled in the past. I can imagine that the downsized EMI staffing has had an impact. I've ordered a copy from yourmusic and will see what happens. I can give away the defective one to someone who won't mind.

You saw it here first: Charles Lloyd is really Hank Mobley. Shhh. He wants to keep it quiet. Something about the IRS.

"Blues Walk" has been in print for 19 years!

If the lack of original cover art weren't enough, here's another reason to avoid Mosaic. I thought that was the funniest response I've ever gotten from Michael! I was literally bent over with laughter, it was like he was channelling Babs! Michael has a clearly defined idea of "commercial potential." It is an integral part of his modus operandi. He may well be right that Babs doesn't meet the criteria. His business is on the line and he is allowed to call the shots. As for the original art. . .frankly I don't give a fig about original art. It's the music. I'm not an lp collector. It's the music, not the 12" gatefold. Different market for lp collectors. I get you don't like Mosaic, but you're not the target market I don't think.

All the Uptown Bird are great reissues. . . recommended.
-
NO, straight reissue of the released material, on Blackhawk. I got mine from www.dustygroove.com (currently out of stock there, this is a hard one, I had it backordered several times from several sites and finally managed to snag it from Dusty Groove when it was briefly back in stock.)

Hope it was a great one and many more!

Thanks WC.

Totally forgot about Voyage! That def should have been on my list! Thanks for reminding me Mr. Jazz! Really should be reissued, IMHO. Is there any more material not issued the first time around? Voyage HAS been reissued on cd, this year.

If they have corrected this. good customer service would be their getting the word out SOMEHOW to buyers of the defective copies how to get a replacement disc.

If you watch the first season of Star Trek, there are several interactions between Spock and Uhuru which may have inspired this plot element. One where Uhuru is sort of flirting with Spock out of boredom, or rather trying to get him to flirt with her, another where he plays "space lute" or whatever to accompany her singing and there's friendly affection between them. . . . . I like that they included this, very much. One of the highligts of the film for me.

NO, but Michael Cuscuna can more easily be reached there than by any other means I know of and he may have an answer. . . . He's pretty responsive.
-
I have all those in print. I'd like to find second sets at cheap prices of the VeeJay ones and the Kid Ory. . . I'd give those as gifts. Fat chance right? So I have to say. . .my wish list seems to be of sets not yet planned and not likely to appear! The Complete Recordings of Babs Gonzales. (Michael Cuscuna replied to my suggestion "Lon, you're out of your mind!" I thought that was the most appropriate response ever!) The Roulette Recordings of Phineas Newborn The Jubilee Record Label Jazz Sessions (I've never suggested this, and I'm not sure the size of the label, but it could be really cool)

Dylan has a new album out soon, "Together through Life"

That's interesting, because I actually find that I've already listened to this more times than "Modern Times," find it to be more interesting and cohesive than that cd, and think that he is using his voice to very good advantage here. -
Happy Birthday Jim Alfredson!

new box set on Oscar Peterson Songbooks???
jazzbo replied to tranemonk's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I think this is way too cheap to be all the originals in Originals packaging. Mysterious. We'll see I guess. Still don't think Cuscuna had anything to do with this. Would like to be wrong, but it's been a long time since he had any involvment with a Verve set. -
That's a fifties shirt, that's a fifties photo of Mobe.

I don't know. Bunch might have had one heckuva an ego. . . but. . . is that a misprint? I'm with Alexander. Great album. Amazing stuff.
-
Absolutely.

T-Bone is the source. What a man. Jean-Marie, yeah that's a nice JIP reissue. I hadn't heard those cds before. I really only know him from the interesting work he did with Barney Wilen. May have to see if there's more to find. . . .

I feel like... It is what it is. The only real objection I have is on many of these CD's, the sound quality. Some are so bad, I can't listen to them. Thanks for the response!
