  1. Many more happy returns mon ami!
  2. I have only bought the Cherry Vol. 2. . .and my copy is a digipak!
  3. Bummer amigo. Here's hoping for a speedy restock.
  4. Nothing to apologize for. Got my SACDs and have listened to most of them. (Man, I'm glad I finally got the Bitches Brew). Don't hesitate to get these from Scott if you're interested. They don't at first sound radically different than the cd versions (well, my cd versions are the Japanese DSD remastered ones) but there's a bit more dynamics and an ease to the higher frequencies.
  5. Yes I know. . . . I'm not going to get them though. I have this music in enough forms already!
  6. No, unfortunately. . .I got money through a very sad process.
  7. Indeed. Sad news.
  8. Wild. I just ordered those two (and Bitches Brew) SACDs Sunday! I really like these sessions enough and thought I'd go for them. And I have held off buying Bitches Brew on SACD for years and years and as I currently have more money than sense I finally ordered it. Someone should consider these if they like the sessions. I also have "Live/Evil" from this series on SACD and it sounds wonderful.
  9. I hear you there, but Roney isn't the draw for me on this one. Though I must say, if he were selected to play "Miles-like" he really fits the bill.
  10. I know where yous guys are coming from, but I'm enjoying this one, I think Bob did a great job of pulling this off. I let it wash over me and be a sonic backdrop and it's nice for that purpose. My favorite sections are Spanish Key and Great Expectations, not surprising since I love the originals so much. Years ago I was excited by Yo!Miles and yet they haven't held up that well for me. Hard to say what this will evoke in me years from now but I'm digging it now. I wish that there were official releases of the live recreations Bob did a few years ago.
  11. I confess that I have not heard the HEP cds. It sounds really good if you ask me, and what I like about it is that all the sessions share a common sound, and I think I would have to listen to eight cds that sound different from each other to listen to this material outside this set. In comparison to the Columbia box set "America's #1 Band" I'd say this sounds a bit darker, mellower.

    DSD

Direct Stream Digital I believe. It is a Sony process for converting analog to digital, an integral part of their SACD mastering process. http://www.dsdproaudio.com/html/dsd_sacd_explained.html
  13. Many more happy happy ones Mark!
  14. I know what Miles would say about this. . . . And doesn't he owe Cannon ten bucks?
  15. I have an eighties LP reissue - German WB. I haven't played this for quite a little while. Daughter and grandson visiting most of today, so I'll line this up for tomorrow. MG Finally got around to this. I agree about the stereo separation - it's as if there's nowt in the middle; everything is coming out of one speaker or the other (this sounds silly). And it's also peculiar to hear Elvin's solo on Africa - one of his drums (the bass drum I think) seems to have been fed into the left channel, but the rest of the kit is in the right. My copy, I see from close examination of the writing in the runoff, is a DMM job, by WEA German in the eighties. So the position wasn't improved by then. I've got to say, though it's a bit peculiar, I don't object to it. There's nothing in the sleeve notes of my copy to say who recorded this or who produced it. I can't imagine RVG recording it like this. Could it be one of the Creed Taylor jobs, before he went to Verve? MG I assure you, this was recorded by RVG at his Englewood Cliffs studio. The stereo separation doesn't seem that big an issue for me but I have my stereo biased more towards depth than side by side separation, that may be why. Love these sessions but I confess I like the first issued version of title track far more.
  16. Ascension, Japanese lp facsimile cd.
  17. Many many more happy ones!
  18. And after looking around this board, I seem to be the only person who likes this one. LOL Oh believe me you're not alone, know that Shawn and I really like this one.
  19. I think you'll find this page helpful (?) http://www.jazzdisco.org/bethlehem/1957-dis/c/ Just search for "Porgy and Bess" and you should see every session listed.
  20. Wow. I might have gotten excited about these a few years ago, and I might get excited still if they are a lot cheaper than I think they'll be. Otherwise, I'll stick with what I have. Especially since I happen to like RVGs.
  21. Thanks, I may take you up on that in the future if the white pearloid bugs me.
  22. Many more happy ones!
