  1. Are your computers Apple or Windows? There was a recent thread on this topic: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?/topic/84952-apple-music-app/#comment-1687778 As I mentioned in that thread, my older iPods (all 30-pin) sync with the most current version of macOS. I can't speak to Windows, if that's what you use, but could it be that is the source of your problems?
  2. That's pretty scary, isn't it?
  3. Cuscuna's original liner notes stated "The material from this session was never issued. The reason was probably not the music, which was excellent, but the fact that it was recorded only in mono at a time when stereo was growing rapidly."
  4. I just stumbled across this - sounds plausible: https://www.kcrw.com/music/articles/how-chet-baker-really-died
  5. Are you always this belligerent? Actually, I already know the answer.
  6. I guess you're not understanding my question. Does anyone else know?
  7. But which one of the 8 is it?
  8. I'm curious about the display "system" that the Internet Archive uses. At the "Julia" link above, there are 9 files. The first is just titled "Julia," and the other 8 have more technical titles, relating to the type of stylus used for the transfer and whether the transfer was flat or used EQ. So is the one just titled "Julia" the best of the 8, or is it some combination of the 8? Or were there 9 transfers? If it is the best, which one is it? A clue might lie in the sentence "The preferred versions suggested by an audio engineer at George Blood, L.P. have been copied to have the more friendly filenames," but I'm thrown by the use of plurals. "The preferred versions...more friendly filenames." Is the one just named "Julia" the preferred version, or are all 8 (or 9) preferred versions?
  9. Basie! And I thought she was British so was surprised by the lack of an English accent, but I now see she came to the U.S. when she was four. What a delight. RIP.
  10. I looked at their website. An interesting little wrinkle is that at least one of their titles is licensed from Sony Music: https://www.sleepynight-shop.com/product/memories-of-maynard-the-best-of-the-columbia-years Boy, they're offering a lot of Maynard Ferguson.
  11. I kept the original LP (US ECM) of Chick Corea/Gary Burton in Zurich because the cover, as printed, is simply gorgeous - the detail, the color, and the pairing of the front cover and back (same photo perspective, but taken as the sun was setting).
  12. Release date August 7: On Two Part Solution, Frank Basile and Sam Dillon play baritone and tenor saxophone, respectively. It's a front-line pairing as rare as, well, peanut butter and fried pickles. But in the hands of these young lions, the combination sounds so good, so natural, it makes you question why we're not hearing baritone/tenor saxophone quintets pouring out of every open window. Release date September 11: The new record from saxophonist Mark Hynes, features the late bassist Dennis Irwin in a rare unreleased recording. With the dynamic drummer Darrell Green, the trio swings joyously with a modern panache. A veteran sideman, Irwin was diagnosed with terminal cancer before the album could be completed. A bonus track is dedicated to him, with Yasushi Nakamura on bass and Jerome Jennings on drums.
  13. I ordered the Larry Young, Charles Lloyd, Freddie Hubbard, Flanagan and Byard, Dennis Coffey, and the two Grant Greens. $71.98 + shipping.
  14. Import CDs is having a sale on some Bear Family titles: https://www.importcds.com/bear-family-sale/b240883?utm_campaign=IC_071720_Bear_Family_2008291701&utm_content=touchpoint_1_ic_071720_bear_family_2008291701&utm_medium=email&utm_source=zaius#!?pagenum=1
  15. But it was issued "in the CD era."
  16. How are the Grant Greens?
  17. They were also available on this King Records release from 1983: https://www.discogs.com/Jimmy-Smith-The-Singles/release/5222339
  18. Cool! Any favorites that people can recommend?
  19. Release date October 15:
  20. Big John Patton confirmed that it's not him, and thought it was Larry Young.
  21. This may turn out to be Keith Jarrett's last recording:
  22. There's some sort of jazz connection with that library. 20 or so years ago, I attended a free concert there with Warren Vache leading a quartet.

  24. At this point, Spotify and other streaming services are probably more useful to students than LPs. Once all liner notes are available with the digital LPs, then there will be little need to consult the original issues. Also, far more people can listen to a streaming album at one time than can listen to an LP stuck in a back room in a college library. Finally, there's the issue of degradation of the vinyl with repeated playings. I'm sure that Dijkstra treated his collection with care. Hordes of college students? Not so much.
