  1. I migrated to SSDs when I found EHDs failing sooner than before. I had a 4 TB Western Digital EHD fail in less than a year. Sure there's a warranty, but that's not the point: I buy hardware to be dependable. As someone wrote in an Amazon comment, EHDs are mechanical devices and will fail - the question simply is when. So far, I've had no problem with SSDs. Of course, I have a regular backup schedule. Because an SSD is essentially just a chip, there can be innovative ways of using them. For example, I've been intrigued by this, currently $299.99 on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Sonnet-Echo-20-Thunderbolt-SuperDock/dp/B0C9VTDXY6/ref=sr_1_1?crid=QR1G3ZHRPB3N&keywords=Sonnet+Echo+20+Thunderbolt+4+SuperDock&qid=1702395646&s=electronics&sprefix=sonnet+echo+20+thunderbolt+4+superdock%2Celectronics%2C106&sr=1-1&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.17d9e15d-4e43-4581-b373-0e5c1a776d5d It's an enclosure for an internal SSD card (card not included) built into a multi-purpose dock; primarily intended for laptop users. I don't own it.
  2. Before you judge your My Book defective, try reformatting it and starting over (copying from your backup). I have no use for the software they load on the EHDs, and perhaps that's the source of the problem. One problem I've found with playing music from iPhones (as opposed to iPods) is if you're in the middle of a long track and stop listening, the iPhone won't remember where you left off on the track, and will start again at the track's beginning when you resume listening.
  3. Kurt Masur - The Complete Warner Classics Edition, disc 23.
  4. Same with me. On my iMac desktop, through iTunes/Music I access my 4 TB SSD (2.4 TB currently used), which is automatically backed-up nightly to a second 4 TB SSD. I can listen to the music through my iMac, or send it to my stereo using AirPlay.
  5. You might want to look into an SSD instead of a spinning platter read by an arm (EHD). An SSD has no mechanical components that can break (or fall asleep). For years, a 4 TB SSD was prohibitively expensive, but they're currently far more reasonably priced (indeed, that's the reason EHD prices have fallen further). A Crucial X8 4TB Portable SSD is now available on Amazon for $199.99.
  6. UPS now says delivery will be on Thursday, December 14.
  7. I received my "shipping notice" on December 4, but the order still hasn't left the "Label Created" stage.
  8. I finally got a shipping notice from Mosaic. But according to UPS, it's just at the "label created" stage.
  9. Where's your music source? (CD, phono, etc.)
  10. Kurt Masur - The Complete Warner Classics Edition, disc 22.
  11. The Decca Sound - The Piano Edition, disc 32. Also includes Eileen Joyce, Grzegorz Fitelberg: London Philharmonic Orchestra performing Tchaikovsky: Piano Concerto No. 2 In G Major, Op. 44.
  12. Interesting; I wasn't aware that Horowitz recorded for EMI. These recordings aren't in the Sony box (for obvious reasons). How's the sound quality?
  13. I was fortunate to download most of the box from eMusic back in the day.
  14. Kurt Masur - The Complete Warner Classics Edition, disc 21.
  15. A shorter BFT brings a better chance of my listening and participating, so I vote for two.
  16. I skimmed the BFT, not enough to identify much of anything. But #1 is the great Twine Time by Alvin Cash. The band is billed as Alvin Cash & The Crawlers on anthologies such as Beg Scream & Shout! The Big Ol' Box of '60's Soul (Rhino), but I remember this being played on WMCA-AM in NYC and they called them Alvin Cash & The Registers. This was an amazing era of dance semi-instrumentals, such as Soul Finger (The Bar-Kays), and soul hits such as I Wanna Testify (The Parliaments, who would morph in the next decade into Parliament-Funkadelic). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alvin_Cash
