  2. FYI, Ian, re your note at the bottom of the page for volume 1 regarding "Hot and Bothered" ("*The version of Hot and Bothered currently available on Volume 1 is, in fact, the version recorded on 12 June, 1930 and repeated on Volume 3 (see here)..."): I downloaded Volume 1 on October 13th, and Sony has replaced "Hot and Bothered" with the correct 21 October, 1928 version. At least to my ears, the two versions sound very different. I hope this helps.
  3. Kurt Masur - The Complete Warner Classics Edition, disc 16. I'm struck by how odd, generic, and low-budget are so many of these Teldec covers.
  4. The Decca Sound - The Piano Edition, disc 26. Also includes:
  5. Decca - The Mono Years, disc 53 (last). Also includes: It was interesting. The box contained 53 discs, but most contained more than one full album. There were probably 100 albums in that box. Good value!
  6. As I mentioned in the Hoffman forum, thanks for all the work you're doing, Ian!

  12. There are some inconsistencies comparing the volume 1 tracks to ellington live: Discography: Ellington In Order Volume 1 . Some examples: Why is track 5 (Black and Tan Fantasy) separated from the rest of that session (Creole Love Call, etc.)? Which of the three takes of Washington Wobble is from 10/26/27? Which "I Can't Give You Anything But Love" (tracks 40 & 41) is from 10/30/28 and which is from 11/10/28? Why does my track 41 (d/l from Amazon) give the artist as "Duke Ellington And His Famous Orchestra With Ethel Waters" when it doesn't appear Waters sings on it?
  13. Listening now to volume 2. Amazing sound quality, really brings the performances to life.
  14. Release date January 12: In the summer of 2023, the Dave Stryker Trio joined forces with tenor saxophone legend Bob Mintzer to record an album of new music prior to playing a week at Birdland in NYC. Stryker and Mintzer had been friends for many years and Bob arranged and conducted an album of Dave’s music for the album Blue Soul with the WDR Big Band in Cologne, Germany. Although Bob had guested with the trio on a few tours, they had never played THIS music together before arriving at the studio. The magic and energy that was captured speaks to the beauty of jazz and the height of communication among first-class players exploring new music for the first time. Subsequently, most of the songs were captured in one take. Track Listing: 1. Groove Street 2. Overlap 3. Summit 4. Infant Eyes 5. Soulstice 6. Cold Duck Time 7. Code Blue 8. The More I See You 9. Straight Ahead
