This is interesting stuff, including an entire invented language (or, more accurately, vocalizations intended to sound like a universal language):

If you're interested in Goodman, there's an excellent 3-cd compilation from Sony that you can get from Amazon Resellers for $1.59 plus shipping. Maybe they'd give you a break on the shipping for a bulk purchase.

Aaron Diehl, the 29-year-old jazz pianist, has toured with Wynton Marsalis, appeared at major jazz festivals and shown off his classical training by performing works by Philip Glass. For his new album, Mr. Diehl made an unusual choice for a rising artist: He decided to feature two men in their 80s. Mr. Diehl said the decision to collaborate with 86-year-old tenor saxophonist Benny Golson and 85-year-old baritone saxophonist Joe Temperley was about more than paying tribute to jazz’s history and two of the genre’s legends. The age gap between Mr. Diehl and his guests suits the theme of “Space, Time, Continuum,” which will be released this month on Mack Avenue Records. “A lot of times we look at jazz in eras,” Mr. Diehl said in a recent interview at a Harlem restaurant a few blocks from his home. “How can we not keep those eras separate and think of the language as one complete continuum? It’s all interrelated and it’s all evolutionary.” More here: WSJ (Article title: Aaron Diehl, a Piano Prodigy, Taps Jazz Legends)

"Mr. Bacon designed covers for more than 6,500 books." Wow. RIP. In the photo, notice that while he's reading a book, behind him are all LPs and CDs, with a library ladder!

I just noticed that no one has reviewed the album on Amazon. Could someone who loves the album (and there seem to be many here) post a review? http://www.amazon.com/Silver-Cornet-Bradford-Gjerstad-Quartet/dp/B00MHS5904/ref=pd_sim_15_61?ie=UTF8&refRID=1NMEFN1M96QNVTMF89N1

Another possibility is to contact one of the Amazon Resellers who have the title, and see if they'll sell multiple copies to you at a discount, or even handle the fulfillment themselves. I see Beaches Entertainment has it, though we don't know how many copies they have in stock. As a plus, they're also located in Michigan.

Back in the day, i owned the LP "The Charles Moffett Family, vol. 1", which was on Moffett's own label. This is vibrant, exciting music. Shades of the Partridge Family, the whole band consisted of Moffett and his kids Charnett, Mondre, Codaryl, and Charles Moffett Jr., along with Patrick McCarthy. As the link to this blog states "The back cover claims the existence of a full 3 more volumes, but there was never a proper release for any of them. Hopefully this will be somebody’s reissue project!" I know Mosaic no longer issues Selects, and this doesn't fit JLH's "importance" criteria, but this is wonderful music that should be released. In the car, it's great. It's a wonderful resource when people are finding it hard to agree on what to listen to.

Great tribute, Duaneiac.

Just received Freddie Roach's Mo' Greens Please and Down To Earth. Was disappointed to see the minimalist packaging. The only English is the microscopic reproduction of the original back covers. Each has a four-page booklet (which equals one folded-over piece of paper), the middle two pages of which are solely in Japanese. Really, this is a pretty cheap way to deliver the goods, and now I regret thinking in post #1116 that these new reissues would be similar to the prior releases. I imagine the music will sound fine.

Our last renewal, in January, was $219.22. We're still with them.

Last Remaining Major Record Labels?

Warner also got Roulette. -
Thanks for posting that; it was a great read.

That was interesting. Great commentary on your part, Jim. I don't know if I would've stuck to it past the 2 minute mark, but then, around 3:14, Lee just clicked in to the wave he was waiting for, and it got more absorbing - still Lee, but more substance than before. There's an essential quietness to his sound. Nice bassist, too - who was it?

This appears to be the same woman 3x. Is that cheating? -
Happy birthday!

There's a European Columbia CD from the Jazz Originals series that contains the correct take of "Up and Down, Up and Down": http://www.discogs.com/Duke-Ellington-And-His-Orchestra-Such-Sweet-Thunder/release/6563425 The track length is 3:06, as opposed to 3:00 on the f'd up newer discs. Not sure how available the Euro CD is, as Discogs doesn't list any for sale. I've had it a long time, and think I may have gotten it at Borders back when they used to still have a reasonably impressive CD selection. That is a much earlier edition. I have Such Sweet Thunder from the Ellington Columbia box, and Up and Down shows a time of 3:09.

Shepp/Litweiler - DB 11.07.74
mjzee replied to JSngry's topic in Jazz In Print - Periodicals, Books, Newspapers, etc...
This recording is anathama, at least to me, b/c it features two dear friends, Clarence C. Sharpe and wife China Lynne Perault. They're given the tune of I Got it Bad, but unfortunately Shepp plays an obnoxious obligatto over both the vocal and C's alto solo and ruins the track. Judge for yourselves, Organissmo-ites: I'd say Fasstrack has a point. Wow, that track's a mess. The singer's kinda pitchy, the pianist isn't listening to anyone, the mix sounds amateurish, and Shepp's just awful. C. Sharpe comes off the best; too bad it wasn't his date. -
Here's the list of concerts that are included: http://www.dead.net/store/special-edition-shops/50th-anniversary-shop/30-trips-around-sun-box?intcmp=home/smallbanner1

This is a dangerous board.
